What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Really dark green on that one Tim. I like it.

I am really liking' this knife !

I really like how the blade is seated into the handle on this one Primble, great gravel backdrop. Again, dynamic is the name of the game for your photos~

A New Day is looking good everyone :thumbup: I am still waiting on Mean Green to join mine from West of the Mississippi :D

Congrats to all who've been taking delivery lately on their New Day TC barlows; Cock a doodle doo!:thumbup:
In the past 24 hours or so, I think the following folks have all proudly showed off one or more of the new batch: Barry, Mark, Bob (nice comparison with the Day's Work ), Ron, Rich, Relee1, Shawn, Tim, and Primble. All of your knives look splendiferous!! :D:D

Paul, keep us posted on how the shenanigans develop. :p (I don't understand why people are picking on you about your "friends status"; my mom would have said everybody is just jealous ;);)).

Augie, you just keep amazing me with all the great old barlows you find!!:eek::D Congrats on that Boker Farmboy - it's super-cool!!:cool:

Harry, I always enjoy pics of your Eye-Witness barlows, and that display case you're building is looking good, too!:thumbup:

I need to stop looking at this thread because the USPS deliver day of Monday is becoming a downer! At least the sun is out lol.

I am really liking' this knife !

As always a great shot Primble, your always able to bring out the great color of the bone and detail of the handle:thumbup:

I love the jigging pattern on this run; Bill surprised everyone with it!

I also like the dark, dark green on these; after some wear, they will show some beautiful emerald color! :D

(Some have been known to prematurely 'wear' bone covers with some 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper  I think I'd rather not.)

Glad to read this, Barry. My green knife is really black with just a hint of a green highlight at one end. I'm not going to take sandpaper to it, but I'll carry it daily and see if more of the green comes out.

Meanwhile, this one went straight from mailbox to pocket to work. It came razor sharp from GEC. Pardon the bits of debris that may be visible on the blade. Like I said, I put it straight to work.

Of all the TC Barlows Charlie and GEC have produced, this is the first one where I prefer the 2 blade version over the single blade. This blade combination, the pen behind the main with the pile side nail nick, it is just perfect.

Scott,

I have some other two blade TCs I also like a lot but this Blackwood two blade Spey/Pen New Day is just about perfect! The fit and finish is stellar, the transitions are spot on, both blades are sharp and the grind consistent, the walk & talk is superb, blade pull snappy not mushy like some 15s lately, the blades exhibit no lateral play when open, blade centering is perfect, both perfectly flush at open and close (ever so proud at half), pins perfect HEY what's not to like! Well conceived Charlie and Great execution GEC. Oh, and tube ink colors are beautiful. Will try to post some pictures tomorrow along with some comparison group shots of older TC Speys. Lloyd

Barry - Thanks for sharing your great photos and Barlows.
Shawn - What a great photo and beautiful pair of TC's

Ron - Forgive the pics? Now I am embarrassed, they look super nice.
Rich - Speaking of great photos and knives, well done.
Harry - Sorry you didn't get in on the TC but I have admired the Taylors Eye Witness for a very long time, stunning barlow.
Mark - Happy Happy Happy, well said, Wish I could have landed an ebony, great pair
Augie - Cool Rosewood Boker Barlow !!!
Tim - that green looks awesome, really nice one
Primble - I am always amazed at your photos, you could make my worst knives look like the crowned jewels. I was so glad I got a copperhead after seeing yours.
Dean - Great photo and knife.
LastRodeo - Another fantastic Ebony TC
Scott - I agree, perfect blade combo, wish I had scored a 2 blade, great Barlow you got there.
Paul - Hoping you get one soon.

You guys are very deserving of such fine knives and your photos are amazing.
My wife called me this morning and said I got something I would like in the mail and it was a very long day till I could open it and snap a rushed photo before dark. What a great job by Charlie and GEC and thanks Mike (CollectorKnives) for such great service.

Thank you everyone for the compliments on the Boker, they really seem to have tried with this knife, very well made and finished.
Jack, I love that knife, what a traditional is all about and such a well travelled fellow.
Camillus, good first Barlow, won't be your last.
Everyone that has received one of the latest TC's, congratulations, really like the copperhead bone.
Primble, great pictures as usual.

Thanks Augie, I'll try to show Earl a good time during his stay here

I just got my single copperhead and evergreen pick bone along with a two blade Blackwood. Theses were my first GEC knives and I am very impressed with the feel of them from the swedge, etch, jigging, packaging and weight of the knives. They are perfect Charlie so thank you for all your effort, it shows. Really liking the blade on this one it's just so different.

I am shocked to say that the two blade blackwood is my favorite. I like the warm smooth touch of the wood and the weight of the two blade. The evergreen would be my second favorite which is almost black except the outside edges until you get it outside in the sun where you can see the green come out.

I will get some pics up later just realized I had to upload to Flickr first I guess.
