What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Copperhead Pick Bone TC. I really like the pin behind main configuration & the overall package in this particular offering:

I was given this over 20 years ago...

I love the look of that knife, it has some great character.

Of course, I had to try out the spreadability factor for which Speys are famous!;)
This wider Spey rates high on the dollop spectrum, and very high on the final flourish! Roughly a 20% improvement on its predecessor!:) This one goes on the next picnic . . . . . .

Please allow me to thank you all for the kind words, and beautiful pictures!!!
This run of Barlows is an ongoing delight for me, and I hope for all my friends in BF-land!

Vintage Hibbard, Spencer, and Bartlett Co. - mild steel frame & bolsters and a hefty 3.2 oz.

Similar CASE XX weighs in at about 2.8 oz. for comparison.

Well now THAT is a very good reason to have a spey main blade on a barlow !!!

Nice example Barry. Yep - they are quite a bit bigger than the normal Barlow. Quite surprised when I got mine.:)

Charlie - nice green with the Smuckers and toast. Going to have to try me some. :D

And that "spreadability" is the reason why it is a keeper! What a fantastic blade profile, totally love it! Thanks waynorth for this run, and thanks okbohn for a fair chance (I am almost always late to the TC party, but had everything setup for that 2pm PST KSF release!).

Great OVBs Barry and Augie!
Now I know why they call you Augie, Augie!
Because you are continuously AUGmenting your Barlow collection!!!
:D
:D

Well, I thought is was funny . . . . . . . . :p

Thanks for the comments guys, Barry I love how similar the bone is between the 2 knives.

Charlie, you figured my screen name out, I thought it was funny:D

I finally was able to get a TC! I'll be joining the Society with "A New Day" in African Blackwood. This will be my first and I'm really happy it's from the latest run because I love that wide Spey.

Now I've never owned a Safe Queen before and my 1095 bladed knives tend to get dark pretty fast so I'm conflicted on how to handle my first TC... Who am I kidding: I know I will have that blade on the stones within minutes of receiving it and cutting up steak before the night is out...

Great to hear, Michael. Sometimes, it can be quite a challenge to get a TC Barlow. That's because they are great knives that truly reflect GEC's and Charlie's efforts to make a current knife that reminds us of the Barlows of the past.

As far as a user, the first TC I bought is my user and it's a joy to treat it as such!

I think if they were as easy to get as standard GEC runs then a TC Barlow would not be what it is to us. As it stands, if you REALLY like them you can get one or two from every run. However, you have to stay tuned to Charlie himself to get these and that connection makes the knife that much more special to get. This will most likely not be my last TC...

I've been thinking about it: what's the point of having a wider Spey blade (designed for years of extra sharpening) and not really using it. I will certainly be putting this knife to use.
