What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Another great haul Augie ! That Catt, in particular, tripped my trigger. They are all nice. You need a New York Knife Company Barlow, BTW. ;):D

Another 'Aye' here! :D Those knives look fantastic together

Me and Earl have been out riding the Yorkshire Range today (full tale in the Earl thread) ;)

BTW Has anyone heard from Evan lately?

I'm still poking around here on occasion! Not as often as I would like, as I have had some major plans in the works! As Jake mentioned, I have definitely been glued to the bench, and the rest of my time is spent with the family. Hopefully I'll be able to pop in more often and mingle with you good folks!

Beautiful barlows all around! Hopefully I'll be able to snap some pics of my latest additions next week and post 'em up here. I gotta say that I am lovin' these "New Day" barlows! Masterfully done!

A good, traditional barlow gets used. This one spends every day in my right front pocket and has harvested its fair share of fungi.

Augie, you did have a good week!!! Everyone one of them is outstanding.:thumbup:
What's the secret to your success?

+5K!! Total agreement with everything redsparrow wrote!:thumbup: I'd be happy to score ONE similar to what you have every YEAR of so! :D:D The Legend of Augie's Barlows continues to grow!!:cool:

Good week adding to the collection, another I*xl, Schrade, Cattaraugus, Shapleigh Diamond Edge and a Belknap Bluegrass. Love the natural handle materials on all of these.
I'm trying to add Barlow's to the collection with different bolster stamps while still being a good usable knife, none of these are mint but are still good solid knives.

Augie - It looka like the Barlow Magnet was pulling strong this week, another great haul

After some use, a fresh stroppin' for a hair poppin' ...

John - That TC has more and more character every time you post it!:)

Redsparrow, Primble, Gt, Ron, thank you all for the comments, much appreciated.
Redsparrow, I would love to share my secret but luckily for me the discussion of how we acquire our knives is forbidden:D According to my wife it involves way to much time in front of the computer.
Primble, I love the Cat also, unfortunately it has had the main blade reprofiled but still a pretty cool Barlow.
All these knives have some issues, the Shapleigh has been over buffed, The Bluegrass some corrosion and slight wobble but for the most part they are all still good usable Barlows and I just love the patina the bone takes on over the years.

Speaking of Evan, thanks for putting these covers on for me.

T'was my pleasure, John. I'll have you know that the original pictures you took of that knife remain as the backgrounds on my dual monitor desktop. Just stunning against the red leaves! I still drool over the gorgeous shakes in that ivory, and can only hope to one day find a piece that compares to that one.

Also, I'm glad to see that knife being put to good use! That sure is one sweet, sweet patina!

Can't wait until my barlow starts showing its age like all the ones being posted. Wonderful patina Lemmy.

Very nice Bozack

Good to see you pop in Evan, your boy Earl has been keeping me darn busy!

Bozack, nice collection! I really like the Queensteel, another bolster I have to be on the look out for. Jack, looks like Earl found some young friends:)
Updated pic of some of my recent and older finds,

Yes indeed Augie, Earl is definitely the senior figure there. You have some beautiful Barlows there

Earl is going on his travels again, and I am looking forward to a rest! :D

It's amazing how quickly a thread drops back to page 3 or 4 these days!

So what do you Barlow folks think this is, hmmmmm???

Charlie Chaplin's old knife?

Wait, is that the knife that came in the Captain Crunch box when we were kids?

Oh, I know, it must be that new line of sowbellies from Cindy Crawford!:D

My interest is peaked!
