What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

ANCIENT%20BARLOW2_zpsquulmxv4.jpg

1) Why is the dog wearing glasses?

2) Er, I'm not sure Nike will be "flattered."

3) I am concerned about the older gentleman's appendages and the arrangement thereof, especially his left hand. And his sitting area.
3a) Okay, I am concerned about the older gentleman, period.

4) Who kicked the bucket?

5) Red and Green: Christmas come early, or gang symbols?

LOL hahaha this cracked me up P. I didn't even catch the Nike Air Force 1's in this one ahaha. This is wonderfullll. As Shia Labeouf says 'Just do it!'

Wow you got good eyes P! I have my glasses on and had to really look at that so called dog to see them. That dog looks more like an otter to me at least the head part (smile). In terms of the OLD man I am not sure what you mean exactly? Love these TC SFO labels though--just plain fun! Lloyd

What makes a good, traditional barlow?
Out of all the knives I have accumulated in my journey through life, this one has some magic in it. I don't know what it is about it. I was always a two-blade jack kind of guy, and prior to that I was a swiss army guy. But this single blade sheepsfoot barlow in african blackwood just sang to me when I first saw it on GEC's homepage. I had a few Boy's Knives from the original run and loved them but this guy? Only one blade? And a sheepfoot at that?
Preposterous. Madness, I tell you!
But I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with these TC Barlows. So I ordered one.
Every time I pull it out of my pocket, it makes me smile.
Every clamshell package I slay, every letter I open, every lime I slice for gimlets--
It harkens back to a time before I was born. A time I never knew. But a time I hold a piece of in my hand each time I carry this knife.

Reaching back a bit here but this knife and post are fantastic, very nice sir

I really dig the single bladed Barlows, however, I wasn't too partial to a sheepsfoot...until I saw this. Very nice.

You're welcome! It looks great-- if different from other examples I've seen. I'd love to see more pictures of the bone, in other lighting/angles. Perhaps here? :)

I think you're on to something.

Upon closer inspection, I believe the animal may in fact be a rare, prized wire-haired Lambcliffe, lured out into the open by the re-production of this barlow's main blade.

In terms of the OLD man I am not sure what you mean exactly?

Well, I'm not sure of exactly what I'm looking at when I try to understand the proportions and placement of his arms and leg(s)! More investigation is needed. :)

Someone had fun with this label (again!), that's for sure.

If you look at the old man's hat under a magnifying glass it looks like some lettering in the front under the brim. Behind Huck's shoe is something scribbled I believe. Not sure but looks like it.

Okay Sarah, let me give it a shot! ;)

1) Why does the dog have a Sheep head?

2) I agree!

3) The old man is Primble! He posted his picture in the Trad Mugshot's!

4) Mark Twain?

5) Gang symbols

6) If there is smoke coming out of the house chimney in the background, why aren't the old man and Huck wearing warmer dud's?!:confused: I think the dogs ears froze off it's head!

Looks to me like the ottersheepdog is smoking a pipe, and the old man is whittling, he has a Barlow in his right hand!

They sure did! Hope you'll report back after the RV :D

Great pics Tim, that is a really lovely WLST

Tim - Love the WLST!

It's Ebony and a Spear for me today:D

Beautiful Spear Ron :D Haha and to you and Jack both, I had to search up WLST for a while until it hit me xD :D
Responded on Pertinux's thread Mark :) Paired with your muk they do all the tasks I need to and more in a day's work

More Ramsfoot than Lambcliffe I think! ;)

LOL now this made my morning. I don't see the glasses on the dog but the dog's head definitely looks like an otter to me and the ancient mans left hand looks very uncomfortable to say the least. :)

Lovely knife Ron!

Tim - I like your 25, please see my thoughts in Sarah's thread. :)

Mark - Thank you Sir :) If you make it to the Rendezvous you can see it in real time :D

Hmmm. I guess we'll find out! :)

Okay Sarah, let me give it a shot! ;)

Very interesting points, all!

I shall focus on this one:
3) The old man is Primble!

You may be right.

If so, Primble has heretofore neglected to inform us of his elbowectomy.

When the time comes, I shall endeavor not to stare.

Looks to me like the ottersheepdog is smoking a pipe, and the old man is whittling, he has a Barlow in his right hand!

You're a lot of fun at parties, aren't you.

(:p)

More Ramsfoot than Lambcliffe I think! ;)

:D

Like it says in an old book somewhere: More shall be revealed. :D

I don't see the glasses on the dog but the dog's head definitely looks like an otter to me and the ancient mans left hand looks very uncomfortable to say the least. :)

There's a circle effect in front of the animal's eyeball face area that looked like glasses when I first viewed the image on a tiny screen, less evident on a larger one-- but still there, once you see it. As for the left hand, see "elbowectomy" above. The ancient man is doing well, all things considered.

It will be interesting to learn what the animal is supposed to be!

-- But of course, the knife's the thing (one does not even have to preface this with, "All kidding aside...," because Charlie invariably starts it! :D):

Ancient%2012_zpsf59pruvs.jpg

Charlie has once again put all his heart, humor, and skill into an old knife made new, as he and the good people at GEC bring out the (continual) knifely best in one another.

GEDC0292.JPG

It can become almost (almost) easy to become used to these revelations of the Next New TC Barlow, to almost (almost) take for granted the confluence of eye and execution (including so many hard decisions regarding what NOT to do) that results in these extraordinary offerings.

Well done, Charlie and GEC.

I can't wait to see all of you, all of this, in person once again. :)
