What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

While others obviously cleaned up on the first day, I only left with 2. The nicest grain ebony in the bunch and a parchment bone with a twist. On the normal ones, the darker bone is in the middle of the scale with the lighter bone being to the outside where they shape the handle. This happens from the dye being sanded and buffed away. In the case of this knife, the handles were put on backwards....accidentally flipped over. So the heavier dye lays to the outside now since it didn't penetrate deep enough to darken the middle. Only a handful of them got made that way!! Charlie was kind enough to forever remind me of this on the tube. The man can write backwards!!

It was great meeting and speaking with you Charlie....and everyone else that I was able to meet. I'm looking forward to next year!

so bummed I missed out on those - those two are the nicest ones in my eyes.

I kind of like the backwards covers. Very unique looking. :D

If the tubes weren't marked, the difference would be a little hard to see on a couple of them, but they all have a sort of very shallow sawcut bone look. The color difference was a little more subtle on a few. With mine, the pile side shows the backwards-ness much more than the mark side, that's why I laid it this way for the picture very cool indeed!

And I like what you did to the New Day!!

Yours looks very enticing Jake.
And thank you. Long pull spear and coping secondary. Going to be a lot more useful combination for me. :D
I hope Charlie doesn't have an anxiety attack. :D I tried to stay true to a TC type modification though. ;)

is it a trick of perspective, or has that spey been ground down into a spear?
Sean, sorry I missed your question. I reprofiled the spine of the Spey blade into a long pull spear point and carried the swedge down to the tip. I then ground the secondary pen blade to a coping blade. For me, this will be a much more useful combination.

It happened! I think it's okay to post, since they're sold, but I guess they were a surprise production. Apaloosa Soup Bone.
Congrats, ALLHSS!! Thanks for showing that off!:cool:

Having a fantastic time in Titusville, Pa.

Additions to my collection procured just after 0700 hours this morning.

I might have nabbed a couple good ones today... :D
Spectacular pick-ups, Dan!:thumbup: I've heard of "Go big OR go home." Looks like you changed it to "Go big AND go home." :D

"What makes a Good, Traditional Barlow"?
One that makes me smile just slipping it into my pocket. Just like this one does. :D

With all the excitement of "new releases" and inspiring mods and all, deep down I think a "classic" like this touches me more than any of the others. ;):cool:
