The newest Harlequin, mark side cover:

(One has to see it in the light, moving, for the full effect.)

So: Harlequin all one one side, but also from side to side:

Sarah, It looks great! I am truly privileged that I have held both Harlequin 1 and Harlequin 2 in my hand :D

Really great one you have on your hands Sarah :) Harley Quinn has to be one of my favourite complex characters, such as that wood firmly demonstrates.

Further evidence of GEC's and Charlie's accomplishments with this new Ancient Barlow: it's right at home in his array of the venerable old examples.

Every knife, every blade is different in its degree of 'distress' and unfinished-ness.

For myself, I gravitated towards those with less leftover 'scale' on the bolsters, but lots on the blade(s).

Excellent Ebony Sarah! I'm jealous that I didn't see that one in the case to pick from!!

But then again, I wouldn't have been able to get this one if that was the case. I loved all of them. I almost bought the ones that looked real light, they matched my Walnut TC very well.

Carrying mine again today!

It looks like a lot of the Ancients have a relatively clean bolster. I think I like that. Great pics everyone! I'm also regretting not getting an Ebony.

Is the Harlequin something specific or did you name it that?

Thanks for the photos, Sarah, and hearty congratulations on your new ancient barlows!!:thumbup: (I think that's the first time I've ever used those two adjectives together. ;))

I just noticed that these have a "C" designated for the the blade profile...that makes for a total of 7 C's stamped somewhere on the knife. Seven seas? Weird coincidence?

I finally looked up the patent no on this Colonial Ranger Barlow. (3317996, I think, don't have it on me. Applied for 1965, granted 1967.) Unless I got a joke USPTO site, the lawyers who filed the patent request for the guy who assigned it to Colonial were Barlow and Barlow.
OJaCaowA

Patent is for a solid bolster with a nubbin that slides under the handle cover, a nubbin that sticks into the liner, and a recess above the pivot pin, so it can be popped on at the end of assembly.

... And I'm so glad. It was great to meet you and your bride, and share knives together what now seems all-too-briefly. :)

Great picture Sarah! Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome! It's one of the only pictures I took at GEC this time, so I'm glad if it helps others "see."

Excellent Ebony Sarah! I'm jealous that I didn't see that one in the case to pick from!!

Oh, it never made it to the case(!). I was fortunate to be nearby when Charlie started opening the knife tubes marked as Seconds, helping pinpoint the "why" (a fun exercise).

As soon as this one (the only ebony 2nd) was revealed?

Well, you did get a great one.

It looks like a lot of the Ancients have a relatively clean bolster. I think I like that.

I, too, prefer a cleaner bolster, although I appreciate the effect on the others. I've heard that the scale (black stuff) should be relatively easy to remove, for those who might want to try?

Is the Harlequin something specific or did you name it that?

It's not something specific, just the (re)use of a term I first applied to a barlow that had one red bone cover, one brown-- a "harlequin effect."

My (original) Harlequin barlow:

It's a nice combination, one must admit. ;)

Wonderful choices Sarah ! :thumbup::thumbup:

Great pics Sarah, Jake, and Barry. I also had the privilege of admiring the Harlequins. I enjoyed meeting everyone and as Sarah said, it all seems too briefly now. :o

I would have loved to spent more time getting to know more of you and your knives. Maybe next year, as I was never bored for a second. :)

I already knew this, but, wanted to say - just an amazing group of people. :)

Beautiful soup bone fivesome Rob! Sounds like you and the other lucky people had a great time at the rendezvous. Let see--traditional knives, other knife aficionados, GEC tour, food, commaderie what's not to like!

Thanks Sarah, Jake, Barry, Rob and others for the pictures of the Primitive TCs--much appreciated.

Great pics of the Ancients, and a nice collection of soup bones Primble. And Charlie all scrubbed-up! :)
