What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

The recent ancient run is one of the best fusions of history, culture and technology!

Augie Sir - I just love the way you are coming out with more and more knives, and your photo's are just great to look at as well!
Thank you my friend for such pleasurable of my all time favourite subject - knives - and it seems you and I our taste is the same because I simply LOVE every knife you come up with.
Going through a bad stage right now with my knife world- cant seem to be able to get the usual "fix" because of circumstances, but its just fantastic to see people being able to obtain such classy Traditionals.

I am loving the finish on the blades - at the risk of sounding silly - I collect and I also use knives on a daily basis without fail - but there are many knives I have I would use on a daily basis if that makes sense, but to buy an ancient would help one such as myself because the finish is not so immaculate.

Great stuff everyone - this is great viewing.

Halfstop - did you take my Indian head cent out of my trading box ? I can't seem to find mine !! ........... or just copycattin' ??:confused::confused:;):D

It looks different now than the last picture shown in the thread. It has a certain richness to it. Look on page 24 for details. I carried Charlie's scan from back then forward:

And to think that I have actually held "Ole Boiley" in mine own hand  The rich color, the texture, the patina, all the makings of Barlow History :D:thumbup:

Actually now that you mention it.........NO, the penny came from Stephen :rolleyes: But this did come from your trading box :D:confused::D:confused::D

I agree matey, so what I think should be a good thing is that you ship all of your knives to me, just so I can check if in fact there is a bad apple in the box so to speak.:D

Great pictures gentlemen of your ancient TCs! What I would like know is where I can get one of those beautiful ancient TC pins/buttons so nicely photographed by Augie in his photograph in his post above? Thanks, Lloyd

Lloyd, from what I understand, they were only available in the Ancients purchased at the Rendezvous.

I am a history lover, and I think everything about the Ancient Barlows is great. I unfortunately didn't know about them till the original run were all spoken for from dealers because I hadn't been on the forum as much. At the Rendezvous I saw Charlie's soup bone, and other, Ancient Barlows and knew I had to have one. I actually drove to the Titusville Sheetz, as it's common knowledge in PA that all Sheetz have ATMs, and withdrew some cash (I thought Charlie only took cash, turns out I was partly mistaken but oh well). However, when I got back I picked up one of the Beerlows and got distracted looking at everyone else's knives, then my father kind of dropped my little brother on me and I had to look after him. To sum all that up, I forgot to buy an Ancient Barlow.

Then, a day or so after the Rendezvous I got an email from the dealer I use most frequently saying that I could call a scratted bone Ancient if I still wanted it! What a great and I'd say thoughtful thing for a dealer to do. Considering shipping costs and PayPal fees, it's not even much above what they cost at the Rendezvous!

I'm very excited! It's great that us knife people are thoughtful, and I just wish I could have stayed longer at the Rendezvous. I planned to, but then had to take my little brother home. I'm already looking forward to next year... And my Ancient Barlow!

(If any of this is too price focused or should be in the Rendezvous thread, please let me know and I'll edit accordingly.)

Okay thanks Bob! Oh well, I thought I would just ask in case any were available to get someway. I think they are one of the best looking pins that have been produced. Nice job Charlie and the Ancient TCs aren't bad either! Thanks again, Lloyd
