What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Evan, what'd you do???:eek::eek:

:D

Hahaha! Just havin' a little fun with my electro-etcher! She's not done yet! I have an idea or two left for her! ;):D

I'll tell ya, I've never seen bolsters take an etch like this though! Must be the new etching fluid I am using!

Evan matey, I love your work - but to be honest - not this one - but that's the good thing about individual collectors, and an innovator like yourself who will go out and push the Boundaries.

I don't go to the flea market often enough, but today I was able to go and picked up this Tip Top barlow. I've wanted one for awhile.

I too would have been RAPT to have found that knife - it would have made my Week!!! Great Score.

Evan
We may have to start calling you "Triple E", Electro Etchin Evan ;)

Augie
A winning hand, a pair Queens!! Both are great!

Dean
I love the old Tip Top #10! A great Barlow!

Fred

A Good, Traditional Barlow is one given in trade after careful thought. Augie gave up his wonderful MF&S for other considerations, so Charlie (the Barlow fiend) could study its relatively whole condition! I am ever grateful, John!!
(Perhaps the next Ancient should have a spear blade!!??)

Charlie, I am so glad that you like the MF&S, happy the knife is with someone that can truly appreciate it. I think a spear ancient with rough sawn bone would be an outstanding addition to the Charlow family.

Thank you for your generous trade of the first year TC, that is a rare Barlow I thought I would never find, I am also very grateful.

Just a great old Barlow, Phill! Great old stamp

Charlie and Augie
Good to see you two working a fine barter!

Fantastic necklace, Charlie!! Wow!!!

Thanks Charlie! It may be some relation to Earl! ;)

 :D

I was looking through some old apprentice records last night, and Obadiah Barlow must have been a hard task-master! Between 1672 and 1686, he took on four apprentices, only only of whom actually finished the eight year apprenticeship. None of them were his forebears. Obadiah's son, John, was apprenticed to another cutler, Abdy Matthew, bound in 1702, and achieving his freedom in 1710. John's son, John, was apprenticed to his father, becoming a Freeman in 1745.

Phil, such a great Barlow! I love the stamp, this is the 1st one of these I have ever seen.

Charlie, That is Ancient! and a beautiful one it is! :) I am glad you and Augie got together on this trade,
because I know we will all benefit in the long run! ;)

Augie, That is most certainly a Grail Barlow you got!

Jack, Thank you for the info on the Apprentices. I am the supervisor over 6 Tool and Die Apprentices.
Our program is 4 years and I was just thinking that we would not have many that would be willing to go 8 years.
Especially considering those terms and conditions. :)
