What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

That collection deserves a Yowza! Which spear did you get today? You can tell from my signature what is first on my want list...

Added the chestnut jigged in the middle. The collector in my loves the long-pulls for their scarcity and that they were the first run, but the user in me appreciates the nail-nicks for how easily they open.

I agree with you on that. I find the nail nick one to be a pinch and open. The chestnut bone looks really good. I have the red and it is one of my top favorites.

Glad to see it safe and sound Gus :) The nailnick TC's are the best to open in my opinion. A long pull looks amazing but a well placed crescent nail nick stumps all as P~ says.

My modest barlow collection just added a smooth ivory bone to their ranks

Are any new TC Barlows in the works?

I dreamed one up. A carpenter's barlow with full size spear and sheepfoot blades.... with a redesigned sheepfoot blade that has a spine even with the spear master (instead of riding higher) like on the old "carpenter's jacks". Both blades would have the same depth and legth. Long pulls on both blades with the pulls on opposite sides. ....Oh... and chestnut sawcut bone ...and copperhead pick bone ...and peach seed!! :)

The clip at the bottom - those wood covers - WOWZA:eek::eek::thumbup:

Brad,

Agreed!

Such a sweet, sweet choice on the Anniversary barlow covers, Brazilian rosewood. JSCHENK, you have a beaut, and captured its grain and coloration well.

... I love mine, for all reasons.

I wish I could get more of that Brazilian rosewood!
It is hard to come by with that "guitar grade" grain!

That's exactly what I thought Charlie, 'guitar grade'. Most of my exposure with quality or 'exotic' woods are from years as a instrumentalist. Ebony, cocobolo rosewood etc and the covers you acquired for that LP clip back in the day no doubt ranks up there with pieces I've seen.

Hopefully we see some possibly for the next anniversary? ;)

Great photos of that clip Sarah :D

Brazilian rosewood, how have I missed that until now? Stunning! Thanks for showing JSHENK and Sarah.

I was browsing the production list in the Charlow thread a few days ago and noticed there were anniversary models other than the red soup. Nice to see a photo of a couple. The Brazilian rosewood on those is beautiful.
