What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I am up early at the airport. So no knife for me for a few days. I always look forward to carrying a knife when I return.

Sarah, that Barlow has such a welcoming look about it. I see why it would have comforting homey feel about it!

I don't think a Quick Opener Thumb Hole is at all Traditional.

That's actually a reproduction Scagel nail pull, Bob. Invented a long time ago, probably in the 1920s, to make a knife ambidextrous! Quite ingenious!!
Real Scagel pocketknives are extremely rare!

I think most see William Scagel like knives as traditional. I suspect this knife is a slipjoint and the hole is like a nail nick. At least the ones I have are.

Thanks Charlie, nice line up you have there. That SCC looks really similar to the Utica. Could they be related?
