What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Just received this little Utica Barlow.

That is a beauty, great shape for its age.

Nice, earlier Utica, P&G!
Utica made Barlows for many other companies, along with other knives. Here are some more Barlows:

In case you cannot read the tangs they are, from the top:
Case XX
Case XX
Kutmaster
Kutmaster
Ka-Bar
Kutmaster
Schrade Cut. Co!

After reading that they ALL were made by Utica I had to bring them over for a closer inspection! :D:D;)
Beautiful knives Charlie!!!

There's just something about this little Utica. I can't stop looking at it. :D I'd love to find one just like it.

I completely agree with Bob! That's an eye-catching Barlow for sure; I especially like that stout, no-nonsense spearpoint main. Of course, that makes TWO of P&G's Barlows I can't stop looking at: the antique amber sawcut TC in his avatar also stops me in my tracks whenever I see one!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Charlie, a couple of the Kutmasters in your wonderful image have "New Holland" imprinted on the bolster. The only New Holland I know is a farm equipment company; do you know if your Barlows are related to that company? (There's also a local craft brewer called New Holland Brewery, but it's not old enough to have any connection to those fine old Barlows.)

Thanks, this one seems to have survived without too much abuse.

Wow, I suspected that might be the case but I wasn't sure, that is an impressive array of brands they were built for.
Any idea of the age on this Utica? Best I could come up with based on the tang stamp was possibly pre-WWII.

Thanks Bob, it sure is an interesting little Barlow.

Thanks, GT It seems to be a pretty stout little Barlow. Its a tad shorter than the TC Barlows and has a pretty wide spear for its size.
That Antique amber is a favorite of mine as well, I have one and they still stop me in my tracks whenever I see one.

Found one I've been looking for, a KA-BAR KA-BAR-LO in stag, made in 1983.

Nice KA-BAR-LO Augie

It's brisk and wet outside: perfect!

Nice soup bone, you certainly have managed to gather a good assortment of soup, congrats. The only soup bone I have been able to come up with so far is the red Anniversary clip.

5K Qs - I am sure they were marked for the farm equipment company. Promotional/gifts - I am not sure, but I have seen quite a few of them!

Augie - nice Doggie!

Gus - nice pic!

What's this thread doing halfway down Page 2?! :D

Thanks, Charlie. :)

I have to agree with everyone - Augie Sir that is a great Ka Bar-Lo I too would have snatched that one up my friend.

Charlie - I was shocked to see that Utica had made all those Barlows!
