What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Yes very interesting. Never seen these stepped bolsters on Case before. Great EDC.

The bone used to be corn cob jugging now it's smooth, real pocket worn.

Mike

A very interesting knife and yes, "Pocket Worn" in the true sense of the word! Thanks for the link.

Queen Steel #22 Barlow 440 SS with aluminum frame and saw cut delrin covers. 1984 or later production.

This is another one from the 1961 - 1971 manufacture period. Also has the aluminum frame and saw cut delrin covers. This knife has a blade etch (not prominent in this pisture but no tang stamp.

Note the nail nick placement difference between the two knives.

It took me a while to find this little Robeson.
Has been used a lot, but almost zero blade paly and still a good snap.

Mike, CDS, nice Case redbones, one of my favorite covers. Ed, couple of nice Queens, those aluminum Queens are so light you forget you have one in your pocket. Nifebrite, nice Robeson and the sheepsfoot blade is not that common.

Been a little bit of a drought as far as Barlows but I got a downpour this week, found 4 nice vintage barrows from an estate collection. All 4 look unused, some have some minor storage rust.

First is a bone Boker, this Boker is very unusual, see if some of you sharp eyed Barlow experts can figure it out,

Then a Case Tested, I think this is one of the Barlows made by Utica for Case, what do you think Charlie?

Augie...love that Boker! Something about the logos and markings on the Barlow bolsters that I really love. The handle material and shape on this one is perfect. Great finds.

Augie, again your skills are amazing at finding vintage knives:thumbup:

I agree with the CASE being Utica made. I posted early (way back) in this thread a Kutmaster/Utica made Barlow. Charlie made mention then Utica made CASE Barlow and posted some of his marvels:thumbup: the resemblance was spot on:cool:

Augie, great catch. All four are great in any condition. Somehow I like the Shapleigh a bit more. You should take group photo of your entire Barlow collection.

Buck #331 Granddaddy Barlow in Yellow Sawcut Delrin NIB w/papers, a 1999 SFO for SMKW, never advertised or sold by Buck. Like the black version a BIG Barlow, 5" closed.

Nice Buck GD Barlow Sonny!

Augie, those 4 alone make a wonderful Barlow Collection - let alone the rest of outstanding examples you have, my friend, as I have often stated, I LOVE looking at your wonderful knives, you have impeccable taste!

How do you do it? That's a tsunami of Barlows! The Shapleigh and the Utica-built Case are outstanding! I am fairly sure I am green around the gills at this very second, but it will hopefully pass. :o

Great find, Sonny! I've tried to pick up both the yeller and black Buck granddaddies but found myself either in bidding wars that had gone beyond bananas or walking into a dealer who "knows things" about the knife and subsequently wants to ask for many times its fair market value. I believe those were Camillus builds? A fantastic example and, again, I find myself entertaining a little envy to my own consternation. :o

I did find a Barlow I've been trying to get for a while, and for a bang-up deal.

:D
