What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

That Queen looks really nice. What model is it?

It's the standard Queen #69 in D2 and ACSB (amber carved bone). Disappears in the pocket.

This thread is primarily about Charlie's TC barlows, though.

Nonsense. Go back through the thread and count all the non-GEC Barlows posted here, including the dozens Charlie himself has posted.

You're way off base on this one. Either apply to be a mod or let them do their job.

This thread was started by Charlie at the beginning of his TC barlow, and continues to be the main information source on said knife. Sure, there may be many other barlows in this thread, but the TC is the heart of it.

Your pouting is growing tiresome. Do your proper homework next time, and you may be able to get one, instead of sitting here and griping about their availability and production numbers.

Having said that, you do have some mighty fine oldies in your collection. :D

Again, as I said to Phil, I invite you to apply to be a mod. Until then, your opinions can remain yours alone. :D

The only pouting I see here are by people who clearly harbor some misapprehensions about this thread. Charlie had (and, in fact, still has) the option to entitle the thread in a non-ambiguous manner indicating his preference for content herein. Given that I have 72 posts in this thread and yet own zero TC Barlows, the mods have been rather silent on my contributions. I think that speaks far more loudly than any pouting over my choice to include non-GEC knives in my posts.

Ah, I see, "do as I say, not as I do". Speak for yourself, next time. I do not need to be a mod to call you out for throwing a hissy fit.

Your thinly veiled attempt at undermining the TC Barlow is borderline insulting to TC admirers, owners, and their makers. Your comments reek of underhanded condescension, and pent up frustration towards this knife.

I, and I am sure everyone else in here, gladly welcome you to post photographs of your barlows. What I do not find is necessary is your lack of respect and general poor sportsmanship.

Those 14 Barlows look great. Little too small for my tastes as the 15 is about as small as I'll go. Gorgeous to look at though, thanks to those taking the time to put up pics.

And a Barlow pic just because

Oh man Dean, fantastic pics. I love that copperhead, but the yellow heartwood is just calling my name. Congrats to all that acquired their #14s!

Do you prefer blondes...

I like the looks of those yellowhearts too. I think they might have looked nicer with a polished bolster like the others, but I'm thinking that the polishing process might have ended up gunking up the wood though with polishing compound. That's my best guess on why they didn't buff 'em.

Usually I would say brunettes but in this case I gotta go blonde. The Diamond Edge, 'S' bolster Schrade, and OVB really swayed me :D

Interesting, hadn't thought of that. It would be interesting to hear what Charlie says about it.

Gorgeous! There are about 9 of those that are on my list to add to my collection (not yours, ones like them :)) Great set of Barlows. I particularly like the OVB and the Keen Kutter, so I must favor blondes.

Very nice, Dean! Looks like you got some pretty Ragg-y bone on the pile side!

To continue, this one has some serious Ragg bone going on.

As always, Atiger, some absolute knockouts you have there regardless of your preference. Do you have an idea of the age of that top natural bone Belknap, with the "Bluegrass" stamp? I've got a similar one (though in a condition that doesn't even deserve to be in the same breath as yours) that seems to elude a firm date range according to my research.

Again, a matter of opinion. I've been posting non-GECs and offering commentary in this thread for quite a while now with no push-back whatsoever. Until today. Short of a mod telling me that this is not the place for that, I'll continue to do so with zero regard for the opinions of the wannabe mods in this thread.

What I will do going forward, however, is to ignore these criticisms altogether until such a time as a red-name or slanty-name intercedes. I think that's reasonable.
