What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I have been doing some maintenance the last couple of days. You know the kind of stuff, Oiling the joints, CFing and CEing, a lot of those last two items for sure. I was thinking about how close it is to Rendezvous time. I was also remembering how great last years Rendezvous was. Then I pulled this one out of the tube for a look see and I immediately thought, Wow! I was able to purchase this beautiful Barlow directly from Charlie C! To me that makes this not only a Good Traditional Barlow, but A Great Traditional Barlow!:D

Ron. I agree. Buying from Charlie IS pretty special. Charlie's pretty darned busy these days so the Dealerships gave taken over much of the selling/ but like Paul said- man what a knife- a special one for sure.

Love the coloring on that one Paul. I know when I had my evergreen pick bone, they have to be viewed outdoors to fully appreciate the beautiful shades of green. You got a beauty from Ron.

Jack, that is a beauty! I can imagine the colors if in the sunshine, Wow!

All these fantastic pics are making me anxious! My first ever TC will be here this weekend. I have to hope that it doesn't get stolen when going through customs at the airport and then I have to wait for my friend to unpack his bags, but I should have my hands on it soon! It's a 14 with Black Cherry scales. One of these days I'd love to get a single blade or two blade 15 with a clip. They really are stunning knives!

Love this photo, and the knife is perfect. I have the utmost respect for the owners who use these masterpieces. I know that's what they're made for, but I'm too chicken I guess.

Sharing a very special Barlow to me today. Received this as a gift from Bob (BigBiscuit) a little while back. Ulster Old Timer 10T made in 1964. It was a promotional knife offered on tins of Prince Albert pipe tobacco. (I thought that was a neat bit of history there) Bob commissioned Glenn to have the covers replaced with beautiful Black Walnut Burl. I could not get the sun to cooperate with me, lots of glare, so its an indoor shot that doesn't do it justice. Because of the thought and sentiment behind this knife I admit to treating it more like a museum piece but today it ended up in my pocket. Cheers to you Bob!

Beauty of a barlow Drew, I remember talking to Bob about what he wanted made for you after he had found out you already had a fremont :P a fantastic memento illustrating the kindness and selflessness of the porch

These are simply amazing!

Thanks bud, I love taking some photos :) Can't wait to see pictures of yours when it drops by.

That is BEAUTIFUL Drew!!! I love the bolsters, the covers and the Barlow as a whole. Being Bob had Glenn do the covers and it being Bob's Barlow equals heirloom knife my friend!

I've had some wonderful luck lately. Yesterday with Ron's wonderful gift of a green pick bone New Day TC, then that followed with this beautiful two blade version arriving today...(thanks Trevor)
