What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Here's a couple you could describe as traditional...

The sawcut is stellar, but there is something about the elegant simplicity of that "S" stamp that I just love.

Very nice Barlow's being posted everyone, old and new.

Added another Appaloosa bone Case this week, 1979 and unused,

And a nice vintage Schrade, almost unused, corrosion from sitting, looks to date WW2 or before,

I've come to love Barlows most of all. To me it's the quintessential classic pocket knife of a time long past. I like and carry others too, but the Barlow is always in the #1 pocket position (RFP). It performs nearly all my cutting tasks of the day, from slicing the morning bagel or muffin to opening the mail/packages, cutting open feedbags, lunch and dinner, etc. During the night it sits on the dresser with wallet, keys, etc. When I wake up in the morning it's immediately dropped into my pocket and resides there til bedtime.

Beautiful Barlows, John! The covers on both are top-notch! :)

Got these three at a flea market today (there's a gentleman there every week with a couple hundred knives).

Imperial, Ulster and L.F.&C.

Any ideas on what the handle material is on the L.F.&C.?

Augie- ...I really need to sit down and talk with you my friend... I just LOVE every knife you pick up :D

I love coming here and having a look around here - just stunning knives!!!

Here are a couple of neat old Barlows I picked up a short while ago- Im sorry I havent contacted the people who I got them from because I just gather them at Pauls place then have a box or so sent over now and then lol..

Ulster ......
Nice Bone on this Old Girl....

Also picked up this very very Tidy Red Bone Late sixties..

A Few Older Barlows.... not a massive grouping by any means, This group in particular is quite precious, as most of these - bar a few have been gifted to me - which means so much to me and also makes the knife very precious........

Duncan, thanks buddy, we should be able to sit down and talk at the Rendezvous next year as long as everyone's plans come together. Beautiful group of Barlow's you posted, those Case redbone's are probably my favorite, such a wide range of color.

Dean, thank you, nice flea market finds, you don't see the LF&C all that often, LF&C used a handle material that I would call a hard rubber, lot of their jack knives had that material with a jigging pattern.

Very nice trio Dean, sorry I can't help on the LF&C covers.

Thanks, Paul!

Great looking Barlows, Duncan!

Thanks, John. It sure feels like rubber! I like it.

Nice display of Barlows, Duncan!
And those two you just received - nice Ragg and Soup Case, with a glowing Redbone! It's got it all when you add the nice blades!
The tan Barlow with it - what is the tang stamp? Also a classic looker!
