What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Those bolsters are actually forged, under controlled heat conditions!
They required a huge, reinforced die to stamp them out!!

GEC is the only company that can do that process, currently. The results far surpass engraving or etching. I also prefer it to laser cutting!
Forging produces an "Old-Timey" finish!!
Yummy!!

One more reason to carry a TC Barlow!:thumbup:

I never knew that about the forging of the bolsters - that's very interesting and shows the degree of "correctness" in your design of these and the GEC production process!

I picked up a few Barlows at a knife show yesterday (Knife Days in Wilmington, OH) . Always a good slipjoint show.

1. Clauss Fremont, Ohio USA

2. Camillus 51

3. Kutmaster

4. Shapleigh Hdw Diamond Edge

5. Remington UMC (no USA) Any ideas on a date range for this one?

Dean, not sure if this will help, but it's the only Remington Tang Stamp chart that I could find.

Wow Dean!! Each and every one is SUCH A BEAUTIFUL KNIFE!!! very very well done, I would have been a very happy camper with that Haul!

I love those Clauss Knives.. each one I have seen is such a great knife - the Bone on that Claus is outstanding in every way!

Camillus is a Brand I have always loved- just look at your Barlow and you can see why!

That Kutmaster - Oh man...that Bone! What a awesome old Barlow - I actually really like the Long oval Type of Bolsters on those Kutmasters.

That Diamond Edge is again- outstanding - I have never came acroos any knives like this in a knife show- remember we are in New Zealand- often theres boxes of used and badly shaped knives such as Richards etc - hardly ever have I found anything decent like this.

Cream of the Crop - That Remmy is something that I just cannot stop going back to look at - A genuine Remington in absolute pristine condition - and its a Spearpoint as well!!!!!

Amazing group Dean, thanks for sharing I have loved looking at these great knives!!!:thumbup:

Thanks, Duncan! I've never had a chance to get this many good ones at once. And the Remington is my favorite, too! :)

Dean, you had a good day, everyone of those Barlows is a nice addition to your collection, congrats!

I've got to jump in here as well Dean...Wonderful score my friend:thumbup: ALL, the Clause has gorgeous covers as does the Kutmaster (little tank of a Barlow) this Camillus, although delrin the covers are a gorgeous delrin. People may think I'm odd (quiet Duncan):D but there is good delrin and great delrin and I think the Camillus has great looking Delrin.

The Diamond edge...WOW, just WOW:thumbup: love the bolsters and "again" everything about the knife.

The Remington is really OUTSTANDING:thumbup::cool: what a mail call...ALL Very nice:D

Had to EDIT to add this...GuestWho, wonderful Barlow wheel and picture:thumbup: and Jeff, two great Barlows and a great color combination:thumbup::cool:

Thanks, Paul. I agree, there is great Delrin; the Camillus surprised me with its overall quality and solid feel.
