What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Just pulled this one out a few days ago and found myself admiring it all over again. It's a second I bought from Barry and why its a second I have no idea.

Flawless bone covers, both blades centered and Solid with perfect pulls. If I had to guess, I'd say the blade etch to be a bit low? Now that was a stretch right there because in all reality, there is NOTHING wrong with the Barlow. I know the picture of the blade etch is out of focus but there's nothing wrong with its placement.

Just happy to own this one:thumbup:

Thank You Lloyd! It's a nice season for taking pictures.
Really glad I got this Soup Bone, Bob from Oldhundred sold it to me.
Unfortunately the photos seem to be disappeared, but I guess it's just because photobucket is down for maintenance right now.

Thank you, gentlemen. This thread is almost 750 pages long and contains some of the most exquisite
Barlow knives in existence - old and new. Just like you, I've enjoyed perusing its pages for quite some time and i've learned a great deal from you and all the other contributors. It's a privilege to participate and occasionally contribute something that garners the compliments of collectors far more accomplished and knowledgable than myself.

Bob, beautiful, first one I've seen with one arm blade, is that an Evan custom?

Atiger, very nice OVB, you really have collected some great old Barlows.

Yes, it is John. This a was 1 of 2 prototype for the JBF Champlin Electric Barlow's. Ultimately, they went with a stainless clip blade for the run. This one was recently on the exchange here. It sat there for about a week with no takers. Mike had Dropped his price to the point where I was able to sell another TC to pick this one up (Essentially an even trade). I was very pleased to be able to get a hold of this very unique knife.
A couple more shots.

That is a GREAT pick up Bob, always a nice addition when you can find a prototype.

I found this prototype a few years ago, confirmed by Bill Howard from when he worked at Queen, most likely less than 6 made.

Nice find John. I like the rarity of the one arm blades. Nice bone coloring on that Queen also.

Cattaraugus Rosewood covers and beautiful stepped bolster. :D

Beautiful knife, Bob. The character of that rosewood is amazing.

Awesome sawcut on that queen, Augie. Was it done as a prototype for the Bluegrass/Black Box knives?
