What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Great knives Bob and Augie, I was also eyeing this proto Bob, but couldn't justify that purchase, good catch.
The Winchester proto is awesome with the rounded bolsters, haven't seen one arm with rounded bolsters before, another good catch.

Awesome sawcut on that queen, Augie. Was it done as a prototype for the Bluegrass/Black Box knives?

Bill stated who he did the prototypes for but I don't remember the name, the customer would always request 5 or 6 prototypes but if he was happy with one that would be all he got.

That's interesting. It's a really cool knife - all the more so with the confirmed provenance from Bill.

Cattaraugus Rosewood covers and beautiful stepped bolster. :D

That is a GREAT pick up Bob, always a nice addition when you can find a prototype.

I found this prototype a few years ago, confirmed by Bill Howard from when he worked at Queen, most likely less than 6 made.

WOW, Bob and John!!! just great Barlows, thanks for posting, both worthy of a page carry over:cool::thumbup:

Two very nice knives Gents!!! Wow! bob...thats a neat score, I too eyed that one up believe me my friend!!!

Augie, I have to agree with Bob - the Bone colour is sim ply wow factor on the one arm - neat knife my friend.

I was excited to see that post myself. I've never had the cance to own a TC Barlow with a clip blade. This ones been a long time comming. Cant wait to see some pictures of the covers. I see Charlie went with his idea of limiting the cover choices. I agree with his reasons 100 % and the Cover he picked IMO is a great one. It's all just a matter of time now lol. :D

Thanks for everyones comments on the Queen, they did use some pretty bone.

Jake, like your picture of the TC, appropriate for today.

Picked up a well worn Case Tested and threw it right in with my EDC Barlows, man those Case Tested's take a hell of an edge.

Wonderful CASE Barlow's John I really like the CASE tested, well and of course there's nothing like CASE red bone:cool::thumbup:

I just posted this in the "Old KNives" thread but it needs to be here as well.

An old CLEARCUT, GEO WORTHINGTON CO Barlow. Very STOUT Barlow with great heft, half stops that are flush in all positions. Near full blades that are centered and SOLID:thumbup:

Great looking Barlow, Paul! The covers look really solid with great color. I've never seen one of those before.

Very nice Barlow, Paul. The more I see some of these older Barlows, I really like how a lot of them have the shoulders on the handles where they meet the bolsters.

Paul, love that Clearcut, very nice. The bolster and pin placement sure are similar to the Tryon Charlie gave me.
