What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

One that tells a story & symbolizes the relationship among friends. I can't thank you enough, buddy. There isn't a word in the dictionary to describe how I feel.

As good as it gets. And beautifully photographed.

Nice Barlow GuestWho!!

Philllll et.al, here is some some 'splainin'!!

GEC ran out of Peachseed at the end of the run. There is a certain "fall-down" - cracks, flaws and the like, that render pieces unusable.
It looks like the last 25 knives or so have "alternate" handles.
There are several with that horse-cut-looking jig, which they are labelling "Pony-Cut", and a few smooth bone as well, all with the same dye.
The odd ones will not go to the dealers at first, only the Peachseed.

It's Amazing how a simple mistake in production can develop into the making of a few scarce highly collectable knives. :D

Awesome, Dee!! And that is one good looking barlow:thumbup:

Added a few vintage Barlow's lately, first up is a Queen from 1972, very pretty bone,

A StaSharp which appears to be made by Camillus, solid knife with close to full blades but some corrosion,

Finally a Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett, Our Very Best, little to no use with a pretty scarce spey main blade,

Those are some fine Barlows, John!!
That OVB, cut-swedge Spey is way cool!! And the other two are close behind!!!

While rooting around for another knife, I came across this Barlow in the wrong box (typical!).
I think it is a year 2000 "Millenium" knife. Real fine pearl, interrupted by the shield unfortunately. Still Purty though!:)

The scratches are on my scanner glass - it's getting bad!:grumpy:

Augie
Something about that Sta-Sharp grabs me. The other two are simply wonderful. Your gonna need some heavy duty suspension added to your ride for rendezvous ;)

Charlie
Almost a juxtaposition...a pearl barlow :D Lovely indeed

Thank you all for the kind words!! It really is something special.

I think the only TC I'd prefer (by the slimmest of margins) would be the antique amber sawcut. But given the rarity of both, it'd be a privilege to own (or even just hold!) either.

Thank you Charlie, the spey was a nice surprise, going by the auction pictures I thought it might have been a modified spear but having it in hand I can see it is originally a spey. Like the Millennium Case, very nice pearl, agree about the shield, don't know why Case insisted on putting shields on their later Barlows. I've got some stag Damascus bladed Case's and feel it would look better without the shield.

Gev, thank you, the StaSharp is a pretty neat old Barlow and I'm a sucker for a long pull spear blade.
