What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Thank you for the comments on the IXL Barlows guys. Hey they aren't the best in the world - but it's better to have an IXL Barlow than not I say.😄

Absolutely agree...

An I*XL Barlow is a good thing Duncan!!

Here is a part of a small collection I am buying. There are a few more to come in the mail. It includes a somewhat worn vintage I*XL!

An interesting bunch, they are;
>Western States
- A "timid" one-hand-hook, but a nice knife, with an arched stamp.
>Simmons Hardware
- outstanding Pearl with an engraved Aluminum bolster.
>Maher&Grosh
- poor sharpening technique managed to leave most of the etch.
>Ulster Knife Co
- a bit worn, then cleaned; still nice.
>George Wostenholm (I*XL)
- worn but sexy!:D

Would love to get my hands on one of these Barlows. Afraid I am late to the party as all seem spoken for.

So I guess not "Barlows for all" this time.

Great I*XLs Duncan - killer!!!!!

I was hoping Bill would get that latest Barlow out before Christmas, and he has come through!!
Coming across the Hallowed Benches of GEC now, I give you a clip for everyone:

Thanks Tiger- I note that your knives are all very nice- it's a pleasure to view.

Thank you Charlie- another collection you are buying? I thought you were trying to cut down ( pardon the pun;) )

Ron my friend- that's a gorgeous Red Bone user👍

Philllll my friend- you echoed my thoughts on that IXL- I also fell in love with that IXL because when you see 80 year old Stag get to that Ultimate Colouring that only nearly a Century can give Stag- man... it's like your first sip if Beer on a very very hot day🍺

Nice work Charlie :)

John and Lloyd, you guys are too quick!
I see that pull on a bunch of my old Barlows, and asked Bill to cut it in there.
Those little details turn my obsessive crank!!

Great attention to detail as always Charlie :) Like yourself, I'm sure, I have lots of older Sheffield knives where the pull runs into the tang, sometimes right across it. The result of cutting it by hand I imagine

This one today - how can you not like a knife called "Never Dull"!

Certainly nothing dull about it, great knife :)

Thanks for sharing your IXLs here, Duncan. I'm just getting ready to write (more) about my own IXL in Jack's 2016 knife thread, as it is clearly one of 2016's game-changers for me-- even if not the Top Knife.

I regret not including my own IXL Barlow (a gift from Charlie) in that thread P

Some very interesting knives there Charlie, nice Simmons :) Well caught! :)

Aged like a fine wine. There's no dye in the world that could perfectly replicate that color.

Way to go Charlie, yet again you introduce another classic to the porch! I'm loving the subtle detail changes on this one.

This just in, the Etch!

It is the same one that appeared on the first Clip TC that we did.
They should be packaging and shipping soon!! Can't wait!!!

Very nice. Can't wait for them to ship, cautiously optimistic there will be one in my pocket for Christmas.

I'm usually not a fan of etching but that's not too shabby! The knife looks gorgeous! Thanks Charlie and GEC!

My name's Tom so I am super excited to get one of these! Been hankering after that etch for ages.

Charlie you got some 'splaining to do! :D

Best I can figure, is those are unfinished, Philllll.
The jigging looks odd, but let's see them when they are done . . . . . . . .
Is that what you mean?????
