What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Best I can figure, is those are unfinished, Philllll.
The jigging looks odd, but let's see them when they are done . . . . . . . .
Is that what you mean?????

Yeah the jigging looks much different. It goes in all different directions while the peachseed is neatly lined up. Almost looks like their horse cut jigged bone. Glad to hear you are as surprised as the rest of us! :D

I am figuring that the jigging is done in a "Layering" process - where the rougher "Grizzly Cut" is done fist, then another finer layered Jigging is commenced?
Either way ....I want one lol

The potential is there for those eight or so knives (and perhaps the photo represents the entire lot) to have the nicest scales yet on a 15. No small feat either, but in my eyes, that jigging on brown, red or gold handles creates such beautiful contrast in the disorganized peaks and valleys.

I'll just be grateful to get a peach seed, and have no expectation that these will be a possibility, but I hope to see photos of the finished product. They could be a masterpiece among masterpieces.

A little help guys. I've been following this thread for awhile, have posted photos of the Barlows that I have, joined in the discussions, and have been thrilled to see the photos of the some of the old-school knives that have been displayed. However, I haven't really felt like part of the "club" yet because I have yet to acquire a TC Barlow, (not for lack of trying). That being said, other than check the dealers listed by waynorth, and/or going out on the bay, (which seems to be a more-costy-than-they-should-be place to get one), I just haven't had much luck finding one, (it's rare to even find one pictured). However, I'm on an email list to be informed when back in stock at one site, but I haven't seen a "reserve" list mentioned anywhere, (other than here); how do I get on one of those reserve lists?

Watch the Traditiobals for sale thread- in the Exchange.

TC Barlows Regularly come up for sale there and a lot of them are decently priced. There's one there now for sale.

Very nice Phil. I like what I see. How about some specs?

Thanks Bob!

The handles are african blackwood, SS liners and bolsters, blade steel is O1 IIRC, and it's 3 5/8" closed. Mill relieved liners. It has a stout pull and very snappy. Manny did a real nice job on this one.

T/C barlows are certainly lovely knives but the old traditionals still grab my eye first - nice old Cattaraugus today.

Thanks for sharing your IXLs here, Duncan. I'm just getting ready to write (more) about my own IXL in Jack's 2016 knife thread, as it is clearly one of 2016's game-changers for me-- even if not the Top Knife.
