What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I'll admit, I'm more partial to smooth wood or sawcut bone on a barlow, but this one stands out to me. The jigging, yes, but especially in combination with the variegation and tones in the dye. That bone's gone to look even more fantastic after some use, should that be its lot. Beautiful picture of a beautiful knife!

Amen to that! hopefully in the future there will be some with smooth wood. i do enjoy my first TC rodeo

Thank you everyone:thumbup: The design and sentiment Charlie incorporated in the particular release is very special, Duncan gifting me the Barlow is very special and Evan's outstanding work is very special. Just tickled to own this one. My pictures fail to capture the extraordinary workmanship Evan put into these Walnut covers:thumbup:

That is one beautiful modified TC Barlow....."the kind of Browning stock on a knife"

Anyone produced or procured a picture of the new TC Barlow's with the replacement peach seed handles? Just curious....

A knife with a traditional price indeed makes for a "good traditional" barlow! ;)

Here is one of Evan's "practice pieces", a step in perfecting his technique!*
Thanks for this one Evan - I love the feel of it in my pocket!!

Not as traditional as walnut for checkering, this one is bone - but a big step up from scratting!!!

* might be "practise", but I can find no flaws!!

I have finally gotten my portion of the Barlow order, and spent the whole day driving to Washington and mailing most of them out - and I am tired!
But in response to many requests, I scanned the alternate handles in comparison to the Peachseed. I like the Peaches best, but the others are right behind them! My regret is there were so few of the alternates!

They all shared the same dye baths!

Bill did a great job, and finished them before Christmas! I am happy!

Thats the one that set me off Charlie - when I saw that in the video - I had to ask if it was ok to contact Evan.

That is just awesome Charlie because the Old school look to the Barlow goes hand in hand with the Chequering!

Great job Charlie! But I am curious, how did GEC run out of the original jigging? Did their machine break, or was their peachseed guy due to go on holiday?

Thank you Sarah, the new TC does photograph well, very nice color to the bone.

Thanks Charlie, the Wolfertz was a nice surprise, high condition with full blades, the colors in the bone are similar to the new TC.

You are welcome, Charlie! Checkered bone has become some of my favorite handle options as of late. Can't beat the grippy feel of it, and the look of it is just too cool.
