What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Here you go Duncan, your WONDERFUL Sheepfoot from Evan and my Spear from Evan. Bone and Walnut checkered:thumbup:

In my very humble opinion, I think it's going to be a very long time before a photo of 2 TCs - hell, of any traditionals - surpasses this. And that's all due respect to the incredible images posted by Primble and others on this forum.

I have finally gotten my portion of the Barlow order, and spent the whole day driving to Washington and mailing most of them out - and I am tired!
But in response to many requests, I scanned the alternate handles in comparison to the Peachseed. I like the Peaches best, but the others are right behind them! My regret is there were so few of the alternates!

They all shared the same dye baths!

Seriously, they both look so wonderful. You both have a knife to be proud of.

(Fantastic job x 2, Evan!!!)

They look great together! I managed to get a peach seed but that "pony-cut" looks really good too. Bill and the folks at Great Eastern sure know how to surprise us.

Those are pretty awesome looking, especially the smooth bone. Well done, all. Too bad I missed on these, again.

Evan, that is fine work!! You are a lucky man, Paul!!

Here is one of Evan's "practice pieces", a step in perfecting his technique!*

Not as traditional as walnut for checkering, this one is bone - but a big step up from scratting!!!

* might be "practise", but I can find no flaws!!

So appropriate for the Ancient Charlie, just wonderful. I was awe struck when you posted it the first time:cool:

Boy, this thread moves fast!

That is outstanding checkering  Great stuff gents

I think the only way Evan's work could be "improved", would be to see those kind of scales on a long pull clip point TC. These really are works of art. A pleasure to behold.

These are incredible Paul! Functional pieces of art. Did Evan re-dye the covers? The Sheepfoot looks like a dark purple and the Spear looks like a sort of tan. Really awesome again

Well here she is. Thanks Charlie and GEC for another home run!

Howdy,
The best way to post pictures is to upload them to a hosting service such as photobucket.

I'm mostly a "vintage" knife guy, but those two beautiful models really catch my eye. :)

Thank you herder and Cscholl17:thumbup: the Spear is Charlie's fathers gun stock that he used for this release. In regards to Duncan's I don't believe it was dyed. I'm pretty certain both are untouched, I believe the color/shade is a result of the checkering:thumbup:

Duncan's started life as Palo Santo wood IIRC. The bone dye job was all Evan.

Thanks Phil, I know the tube was labeled Palo Santo, but just thought the tube was a spare. Thanks for the clarification as I wasn't sure of the bones origin.

Merry Christmas to you and your family:thumbup: and....REALLY NICE SMOOTH BONE:eek:
