What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Even Grampas like to get out and play once in a while!

Mighty fine looking big Barlows Mr. Waynorth👍👍. Those Schrade jigged bone handles are just so impressive!

Thanks Lloyd!

Got a few more to add - this is it!

Wow, Charlie - pretty amazing! They all look to be quite a bit longer than what I'm used to - like 5" or so, from what they look like to me on my computer screen. Must've been popular at one time, especially those fisherman's knives.

Very nice Grand Daddy Barluws Charlie.

Please tell me- first photo - top Soear Point ( Stag Handled ) - who made that knife Charlie?

Useful, but not as ubiquitous as the standard ones, GE Jr.
That Stag Northwoods "Scagel" was made for Dave Shirley - before Derrick bought the company of course - by Queen, when Bill Howard was still there! That's a big hunka knife!!

Dave had purchased the rights to the Scagel brand from the family. As far as I can tell, he, like Derrick, was an honorable and straightforward businessman!! He passed away a number of years ago. I liked the man! I remember Dave Shirley at a Queen Show - he gave me a filet knife, when I told him I had every Scagel he had produced so far - 3 or 4 of them.
And over in the corner (this was before Bill Howard started GEC), Bill and Ken Daniels had their heads together! I often wondered if GEC was born in that moment in time!!??
:D

All BEAUTIFUL Grand daddy's Charlie:cool:

My most FAVORITE knife ever. 2013 Clip/Pen Gabon Ebony TC, timeless;)

Yes it is. Here's the bone covered version next to a 2010 moose and a GEC #73. Look how thick that spine is.

I used to have a bone version just like that one, Christian! Thanks for the comparison shot!!

Posted elsewhere, this nice I*XL needs to be in this thread. Apparently they are easier to find in North America, in this case Canada, than they are in Sheffield!!:D
I got it a week ago in a trade from a friend.

Too right they are, can't find Barlows for love nor money here! :grumpy: ;) :D

We have a distinct advantage I think. We don't have to contend with a nefarious mission to destroy all things sharp and shiny. :(

That is true  The Barlow pattern seems to be far more elusive than just about any other though. I can only conclude that most of them were exported.

At least it is less of a mission!

I don't envy anyone in more restrictive regimes!!
