What SAK are ya totin' today?

It is an Alox Minichamp, a truly versatile tool kit in a keychain-sized package

The non alox is thicker but the scales include a toothpick/tweezers and a pen.

I prefer it thinner, though, so I got the Red Alox. Can't recommend it enough!

I've seen that 22-in-1 multitool all around amazon, how are you liking it so far? I have to admit, I'm a little bit intrigued by it.

As usual, I had my trusty Pioneer today, came in quite handy for something I wouldn't have said it was intended for, I was putting some air in my wife's car and the valve stem cover on one was very tight, couldn't budge it with my grip, no pliers handy, her car, but I took the can opener/screwdriver blade out and pinched the valve cover between the handle and the start of the can opener tip, like a spanner wrench effect, and was able to get it moving using that! :)

That's something MacGyver would think of!

I definitely recommend it!

I find it one of the most useful keychain OPTs to date.

I've had my share of useless, heavy or expensive ones.

And this is the one I use the most

How do the grips feel? I've always been put off by Wenger knives by the weirdly shaped handle scales.

Irona, I really like the grips on the S111. It's something different from all of the other Vics I have. And I like different. I have a Wenger Commander and a Highlander, but they have standard scales. I do like that the S111 is sort of a hybrid between Victorinox and Wenger. I also have the S16, which is the S111 plus scissors. Last year I also got an Evogrip 16, which is also pretty awesome. Very grippy! The Evolutions and Evogrips seem to have thicker scales. Not always great for easy pocket carry, but I like variety and change up my edc almost on a daily basis.

It might be time to try one out soon! I've never looked at any Wenger knives before, just Vics. From what I see, the S111 is the Wenger version of a tinker?

Well, the S111 is a Victorinox since Wengers are no longer being made. The S111 has the Wenger bottle opener/screwdriver and scissors (on the S16), and the bigger Wenger belly on the main blade. However, it has the Victorinox can opener, awl, toothpick, and tweezers. I'm not sure where the little clip point blade came from! I think that Victorinox took the best from both brands when they came up with the Evolution and Evogrip lines.

Oh, I didn't see scissors on the S111 I think? I haven't seen a clip on a Vic, so I'm guessing that's a Wenger thing.

Scissors are on the S16, which is exactly like the S111 but with scissors. No clip! Maybe what you're noticing is the lock. It has a locking blade, which I love. The lock is super easy to use. Open blade and then depress the lock with thumb and close blade. The cool thing is that the lock takes a bit of pressure to engage, so it's not very likely that the locking mechanism can be accidentally engaged. It seems like a strange location for the lock, but it actually works very well.

Ah, you were referring to the clip point blade! Yes, perhaps it is a Wenger thing, but I can't say that I've ever seen a Wenger with a clip point blade before. However, I'm certainly no expert!

Yeah, the clip. I've looked through the entire vic catalog and retired models catalog and even on the SwissBianco website, and I still have yet to find a perfect Alox SAK. I was thinking about just buying a pioneer X and a tinker and combining them, but the Pioneer X only comes in silver so far and I'd prefer a green or red, so I guess I'll wait or save up! I'm glad you turned me towards Wenger though, because I somehow forgot about their product line (I say they even though I know that they're technically owned by Victorinox), so now I have more to explore! Do they come in 91mm? I've seen them in 85, 55, 120, and even 130 but no 91.

By the way, Irona, I definitely love the Tinker! And yes, the S111 is very similar to the Tinker. I probably carry my Spartan and Tourist more, though, because I like being able to store the eyeglass driver in the corkscrew. I've been sober for 9 years, so I don't have many other uses for the corkscrew.

Good for you! I don't think I've ever had a use for a corkscrew either, but the screwdriver on my tinker has come in handy a few times. The reason why I'm such a fan of my tinker (besides MacGyver, of course!) is because of the pen blade, which is hard to find in most other slim models! For me, it comes in handy all the time where I want more control, like opening a box and not wanting to slice the contents, or whittling.

Recently I've acquired three new Alox models - Pioneer, Farmer, and Cadet - all in silver (mostly to keep costs down). I find that I really like the Cadet more than I thought I would. It's small, thin, and very pocketable. I think the nail file also works on phillips screws. Great for urban carry. I seem to prefer carrying the Cadet because it rides unnoticed in my pocket. By contrast, I definitely notice the Pioneer and especially the Farmer in my pocket. Longer and thicker knives. I don't have the Pioneer X, and I doubt I'll get one. I don't have much need for scissors. A blade usually works for me in a pinch. I like your idea about combining a Pioneer X and a Tinker! I think that would be quite cool! As far as sizes go, even though I'm a tall slender gal (6'2"), I seem to prefer smaller knives across the board, no matter the brand. So I love the 84mm Vics and Wengers. I'm quite drawn to them. I'm always trying to reduce bulk and weight in what I carry on my person. I'm unsure if they're available in 91mm. I think probably not. The few Wengers I have were purchased new online in the last year or so, so they're still out there...even new.
