Very good Al! :D  Once again, I have to say that I really am astonished to learn that so many of you say bottle-opener rather than cap-lifter! Where the heck did cap-lifter come from?! :grumpy:

Jack, keep in mind that we don't say soda we say pop, but I haven't heard anyone say cap lifter in my travels either.

Incredible Connor! Here was me thinking I was building bridges across the Atlantic and stuff! :grumpy: :D

Jack it's kind of like sheath knives and fixed blades we had an entire thread dedicated to when, where and why they stopped being sheath knives and become fixed blades. The times they are a changing.

Instead of cap lifter maybe a spatula...A royale with cheese sounds appealing right about now :D

Yes indeed! We need a linguistic fightback! :D

We always said bottle caps, not tops or crowns but I never heard the term cap lifter either.

That sort of proper but anachronistic verbiage is part and parcel of the vintage niche that a traditional lives in.

I never heard the term caplifter until I heard it here, I've always heard it it referred to as a bottle opener, to be honest when I first heard it, I thought maybe it was a novel term used to describe bottle openers on gec knives, because it could be used to open the "caps" on their tubes that their knives come in. After seeing the term used in old knife catalogs I realize that wasn't the case.

Yeah ! They are bottle openers. Only an idiot would use it as a so called "cap lifter"!

On the other hand, I was delighted to see the Bar-Timber-Scribe-Low make a comeback.

Best laugh I've had all day, or at least since the siege of coffee-base Gloria. :o

I feel like I've been duped!

Imagine how I feel. I was positive "cap-lifter" was a Briticism! ;) :D

Okay, I stand corrected... That was the best laugh I've had all day. :p

LOL meako. You just won the internet. You should receive it in the mail in 2-4 business days. :D

LOL! :D Yes, definitely!

They've certainly never been called cap-lifters here, in any context. Historically, the caps were known as crown corks. It is certainly a relief to get to the bottom of this, and I can only apologise to anyone who thought this was an antiquated Olde England phrase! :eek We have been well and truly had over my friends!

I did not know so many people dislike the GEC beer scout. For those that really don't like them, I will gladly take them off your hands.

For the next time I am at an outdoor get together, where meat is being grilled and there are no sharp cornered tables, and we value whole teeth and our wives get mad when we use our wedding rings, we don't smoke and gave up Copenhagen and are frankly too lazy to run into the house, and someone has the audacity to bring a 6 pack of non twist off bottles, when we specifically said cans only. I will be the hero!

I love my Radio Jack, my Scout Knives, my British Army clasp knives, etc ie patterns that have traditionally had a bottle-opener - Let me just add here, that we say 'bottle-opener' not 'cap-lifter' in Britain, and while I've always 'Americanized' my posts , or so I thought, I'm told by some of our US members, that there are parts of the US where the word 'cap-lifter' is unknown, and they say 'bottle-opener'. However, I regard the constant - and it has only been constant over the past couple of years - demand to add cap-lifters to every pattern available with little short of disgust, and to be honest - hope this doesn't sound too insulting - as short-hand for STUPID :grumpy:
Jack hit the bottle cap on the head just don't see the need and twisting on your bolsters no. don't get me wrong I want a beer scout but that would be it wouldn't need another

Stainless-handled beerlow? Just a thought... ;)

I think what we're seeing here is a vocal minority. The beer scout was the largest run of a single knife GEC has ever done, if I remember correctly. Something like 1200 or 1400 knives total and they all sold out right away.

It would certainly put some stress on the bolsters, all the more reason to put one on a barlow! :D

I am not a beer drinker. If I have to open a bottle of soft drink, I usually just use a bottle opener.
I usually lift my cap with either my left or right hand. This being said, if the 2016 Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades
forum knife has a lifter/opener blade I would buy one to support the cause. I actually use the screw driver tip more
often.
