Thanks man yes I believe that’s what it is I know it’s definitely a burl but I can’t remember but Amboyna rings a bell lol. I know it’s a Viper Swayback though

No chestnuts around here, but I often go to the forest preserves to pick up hickory nuts. The best spots are where the grounds are mowed under hickory trees. Which means the walking trails are close. Most avoid me as if I’m a crazy homeless guy, but some ask, as I’m standing under a hickory tree, “what are you looking for?”

“Apples”, “ acorns”, “gold coins”, are some of my wiseguy answers, but I usually just say hickory nuts. Zero competition except for the tree rats.

Does Conkers involve trying to hit each other in the head with chestnuts? That sounds like when we’d stand fifty feet apart and shoot bb guns or bottle rockets at each other.

The conkers are inedible horse chestnuts unfortunately I used to know a good spot for picking chestnuts in Sheffield, but haven't found one where I live now, in Leeds. I've no idea why they planted inedible chestnuts, rather than edible ones! That sounds good fun Jeff, we used to shoot fireworks at each other with 'banger guns', but conkers is a game where the hardened conker is threaded on a string, and two boys (or girls) aim their conker at another, and try to break it. It kind of went out of fashion when I was a kid
