What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Remarkable pair! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
Got this tobacco barlow in today so carrying it of course!View attachment 1651761
Congrats on the splendid stag curved Bulldog Barlow!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

All that glitters is not chestnut jigged bone! 🤓:thumbsup:
(I don't think that old saying, "All that glitters is not gold" is saying what it intends to be saying. I think logicians and/or grammarians would prefer, "Not all that glitters is gold". ;))

Straight from the mailbox into my pocket
Congrats on acquiring that classic navy knife! What an iconic pattern!:cool::thumbsup:

I'll be sticking close to home today, I have lots of grading and paperwork to catch up on.
That's a handsome half congress, John! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

What a sensational pair of long, lean, curvaceous stockmans!:cool::cool:

So very nice, Paul.

I’ve chosen to honor Schradurday as well, albeit in a bit more pedestrian fashion. There is nothing elegant or particulary pretty about a 163 rope knife, but I love the way it cuts and feels in my hand. And it makes the best sound opening and snapping shut of any knife in my knife drawer.
And going back to the extremely handy Wenger Handyman.

Superb handle on your rope knife, Jeff!:thumbsup::cool:
Is that "original equipment" or did you put a new handle on it?

Contractor ran over with a fire extinguisher because he thought my knife was so hot it would ignite the gas tank. 😂
🤓 🤓 Good to see you back, Shawn!

I'm not worried. That watch is only correct twice a day. ;)
😁 ;)

Thanks Gary. You pretty much nailed it. Its a 2013 Case 62046 1/2 humpback half-whittler. The shield and tang stamp both read "Bradford Cutlery".
As far as I've determined, Case did a run of Bradford badged knives back in 2012 and 2013. Maybe other recent years also.
In other posts I've called the handles amber bone. I've since determined that they are not amber bone, but rather goldenrod. Its a two spring, pen knife arrangement. No half stops. At 3.5" closed its roughly the same size as the 07 mini trapper. It doesn't seem to be a common pattern for Case. I'm quite taken with it :)
...
With a amber bone 6207 mini trapper. The 46 is slightly thinner, but they're basically the same size. Rainy today, so the lighting isn't the best, but side-by-side its obvious that it is not amber bone. No idea how much Case has used Goldenrod.
...
Decided to carry it today since this is the Totin' thread :)
Thanks for the info and the extra pics, Mike!:thumbsup::cool:
I can see why you're taken with that grand humpback half whittler!

Thanks Gary 5K Qs 5K Qs , I actually use the Spey on my mini a lot myself. 😉👍
In fact, I have it with today. Headed to tailgate with our daughter today. GO BIG BLUE!View attachment 1652173
Sounds like a fantastic time, Todd!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Three aces Gary

Thanks Gary :) Durahide is what Mechanix call it, which is apparently different to the stuff they make sofas from! I wish I hadn't done this search because they're a darn sight cheaper in the US than over here!

:D
Thanks for the positive reaction to the knives I posted, Jack, and for the info about your gloves. 🤓
Sounds like the Durahide is some kind of real leather. I've had a pair of split cowhide ski mittens for 45 years, and love the fact that they're virtually windproof. Like 'em so much that last time I had to buy everyday winter gloves, I found a split cowhide pair and I've been just as happy with those in terms of keeping my hands warm (although I usually keep all my fingers together in the palm of the glove most of the time because of poor circulation in several fingers).
(I kinda wish you hadn't done the search, too! I used your link, which was informative. But ever since clicking it, Mechanix gloves are popping up on whatever webpage I visit. 🤓:eek:o_O🤓)

What a valiant, virtuous, valuable vintage pair, Steve!!:cool::thumbsup:

Jim, the lambsfoot looks very comfortable, but the ladysfoot looks quite contorted in the colorful shoes! o_O;)

Thanks, Gary. If I told a story like that to my non knife appreciating friends......., well, they would just think I was boring.

Been passing my Saturday with a whittler and a Churchill in my pockets.
...
Nothing boring about that Churchill, Greg!:cool::thumbsup:
(My friends think I'm boring whatever stories I tell, and I suspect they're probably right! ;) 🤓 )

Very nice lambsfoot. One showed up on the exchange a while back and I hesitated a bit too long.
Thanks. :)

Happy Birthday... Nothing wrong with grilling in the rain. 🤠

I know what you mean Jer! :D

I've heard a few folk say that Jeff, including friends from Edinburgh! :D ;)

Sincere thanks JJ, both for your kind words, and for giving us another look at those two titanic Trappers, very cool  :)

Beautiful pair Steve :)

It is for sure Rachel :) I guess you could put a steel ball inside the knot, turn it into a slung shot ;) :D

Stunning pair

Happy Birthday Joshua :)

Great pair o knives and Happy Birthday!!!
Thanks fellas!

No chestnuts around here, but I often go to the forest preserves to pick up hickory nuts. The best spots are where the grounds are mowed under hickory trees. Which means the walking trails are close. Most avoid me as if I’m a crazy homeless guy, but some ask, as I’m standing under a hickory tree, “what are you looking for?”

“Apples”, “ acorns”, “gold coins”, are some of my wiseguy answers, but I usually just say hickory nuts. Zero competition except for the tree rats.

Does Conkers involve trying to hit each other in the head with chestnuts? That sounds like when we’d stand fifty feet apart and shoot bb guns or bottle rockets at each other.
It is very hard for me to believe how many people Do Not Know that you can eat Hickory Nuts Jeff . Until I was married , I thought that ALL Pecan Pies were made with Hickory Nuts . We have 10 Hickory Trees in our Front Yard and another 3 in the Back . They all have nuts this year as compared to ZERO last year . Nancy makes Pies and Cookies with them .

A little polish for the CV Peanut today.

I’m partial to that serpentine shape anyway, but you’ve got it gleaming better than factory new.
Carrying both of these is a little redundant. They just arrived today so I've been wandering around the yard looking for photo ops. First time I've dipped my toe in the Alox waters. I'm a sucker for dark blue 🤩

Nice to know I’m not the only person acting strangely looking for good light, kneeling here, shaking my head, muttering...

Cattle Knife and a Trapper

Sweet! Those High Carbon trappers are not all that common, and that one’s in great condition. Is the Cattle a High Carbon as well? All I can make out is Made In USA.

Grilling in the wet. B-day carry
Happy Birthday youngster🥳

Went a little heavy on the carry today- there was talk of Esky Zulus in the GEC thread yesterday, so I had to carry mine today. Got my 86s in the mail yesterday and just couldn't resist bringing them along as well. My right pocket is full!

vEnMhZs.jpg
I haven’t seen an Esky Zulu posted here in a lonnnnggg time. Wish I woulda picked one up. Yours is amazing!!

Thank you. It didn't occur to me until you pointed it out, but a monkey fist is a sailor's knot, isn't it? Very fitting.

Haha! The knot may be unbreakable, but I'm sure it's too light to win any conker games. It would be an endless draw.
It’s used for throwing lines, as in between ships.

5K Qs 5K Qs ~
Thank you! Yes, those big slabs of black walnut are factory.

About that linguistics thing. I am relieved that someone else, a real college professor at that, notices that nonsense as well! It’s gotten extremely common among the lowest common denominators in society - news readers. It ranks close to “I could care less”, to which I reply, “How much less?”🤨

Old Engineer Old Engineer ~ So true! But last Friday a sweet elderly lady slowed to chat and spoke of her hickory nut pies. We both agreed that you have to watch out for worms.
Nuts seemed to drop early this year. Drought maybe?

Hope the knee is progressing according to Hoyle.

Now that I can do! I just struggle growing the side dishes. Here are a couple steaks from my “garden”.

Oh, that looks good!
With course ground sea salt black peppercorns, and some rosemary...
Maybe some sauteed portabellas, and poblanos along with asparagus fried in olive oil and tossed with slivered almonds?
With a spinach/strawberry salad?

Sounds perfect! When will you be here?😁

(We did grow the rosemary, but that hardly counts. It’s pretty easy to grow in California)

I recently got into the Alox also Mike. The blue on those is beautiful! 😎👍
The wrench shield is awesome, and fun. The reason why I wanted it is because my rating is Machinery Technician in the coast guard.
That’s a cool connection, love to hear stories like that. 😎👍

Wow, the marbling on those steaks is awesome Sacto. I’ll bet they are “melt in your mouth” tender. 😋

And I had a coupon :D
