What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Got a cheap Elk River trapper with me today:

Some where over the rainbow
High above the tree tops
Where blue birds fly
I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Magnificent trio! I love those covers!

Last week I modified my Bocote #48 traditional trapper to a sheepfoot trapper. I've been carrying it off and on for about 8 days, and today I augmented the patina with some apple cider vinegar to get it more even. The original is below for comparison.

I was messing around with an old scanner trying to get it running today, and needed a model. It had no depth allowance, so the overall is terrible, but the surface detail crops are kinda cool.

I have had the 76 with me since I took it on my trip. I have slowly worked the edges with nothing but my pocket stone. Today I did a little more whittling with the pen blade and some touch up followed.

The edge is really starting to get there. This is the first time I have re-profiled little by little. Soon it should be just how I want it for whittling.

Sorry for the lousy iphone pic.

Switched back to my first true favorite GEC. I worked this knife over in every way possible. Finally got the potassium permenganate just right on the stag and finished how I really like it. I have a few black arkansas stones but this one I am always amazed by. It is more coarse yet I still get hair popping savage edges. Leave it be or follow with the translucent for an even scarier edge. Love this one.

Nice one. Despite all the new models I still think the #73 remains GEC's finest.
