Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend. Going with the Eureka today. Got a buddy of mine in town who is also a cigar enthusiast and the Wharncliffe makes a great cigar cutter. We call that black raspberries here. You call it cane?

Just a part of the plant. The stems of blackberries, raspberries, and black raspberries are called canes. Leaves, berries, and THORNS all grow on the canes. Berries are born on second year canes, this year’s new canes will bear fruit next year. After that the cane dies.
I’ve been pruning dead canes, clearing competing weeds, and mulching heavily with woodchips in my little patch of woods, and I think it’s paying off. Here’s my purple lipped berry pickin partner. Here’s today’s harvest for which I gave blood
