I see what you are saying Mr. Jack and I don't like to see history published wrong, but, my observation is that he was normally "in the ballpark" on the USA made knives.I don't own a copy Mr P, but have seen so many instances of inaccurate information posted here from Goins, sometimes not just inaccurate, but ridiculous, that I have to question the supposed expertise behind the book, and wonder if the very act of selling it as a guide to knife collecting, is not a matter of fraudThey are certainly responsible for sowing a lot of confusion, and disseminating a great deal of misleading information

It’s a olive wood cutting board that has been a knife Canvas since it’s birthCan’t beat that. What’s that board? Just for knife display? Charcuterie?
It wasn't one of the other Barlows that are/were in contention, including the one residing somewhere on the Americas?!?At least, he was correct on the inventor of the Barlow, being Obadiah Barlow.![]()
Two very handsome totes there JJ, and they go together well
The factory system in the USA, consistent tang stamps, and better record-keeping makes US knives easier to date - or so I understand!I see what you are saying Mr. Jack and I don't like to see history published wrong, but, my observation is that he was normally "in the ballpark" on the USA made knives.
I have detected errors (supported by strong evidence) and contradictions in his book though.![]()
I would hate to be the one assigned to double check all of those entries he made.
It seems possible that some people overlook the FORWARD section in the book, where he states that dates preceded by a g. mean guesstimate and preceded by c. is circa or more correct.
Maybe we should say "should have been a g." on some of the c. entries.![]()

Happy Independence Day
Good choice.
Thank you, Bart.Perfect knife for today, John.
That must have been fun for the kids and adults alike.
Very cool little pocket knife, it has a wonderful look to it.
I remember Mr. 'Snappy"
Not a big fan of coleslaw, eh?
Well afishunter you have me all crossed up now, with words !It wasn't one of the other Barlows that are/were in contention, including the one residing somewhere on the Americas?!?
"In" the Americas" could be taken literally: in the ground - not on the ground. I reside somewhere on the "state" currently known as "Idaho" for example. I'm not in "Idaho" ... yet ...![]()
Solid choice today. One of my favorite patterns!
