What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

It’s funny, FC, but when I saw your name ephsea, before reading your post, I thought “I’ll bet his initials are F.C.
Regarding getting to know names ~ I put my actual name, Jeff, as a signature that is supposed to show automatically when I post. Not sure if it still does, because I can’t see it in my phone.
Doh! The ephsea ephsea went right over my head! Brilliant!
Your name does show on your signature line, Jeff.

Still problems with the hosting of the photos here... 🤷‍♂️
Have a nice day.

Going to be another hot one today. Jack Black Jack Black , hope you find a way to keep cool, Jack! That's some brutal heat you are getting.

Carrying my Eureka Jack and a "Little David" from Bud Nealy today. When I bought the Nealy it was partly because my little brother's name is David. It turned out to be a handy and unobtrusive companion.

Attached is my carry for the last couple of days, and a little elaboration..
I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s and most of my knives I carried were primarily what I considered “weapons” cheap NATO OTF knives, balisongs, pointy/stabby knives, etc. the modern tactical knives had not really come along yet but if they had it would have been right up my alley. Then after I got a little older, and after going into a new phase in my life I realized after some reflection that for me a knife is not really the best choice for self defense (that’s what my concealed carry pistols are for) but a knife is primarily meant to be a “cutting tool”
I know this sounds silly, but it was a realization that I came to that changed my direction and philosophy on knives and set the direction for my collecting that still continues today.
I desired to get a new knife that was designed as a good cutting tool, and one that reminded me of the old Colonial stockman that I had as a kid and lost. So I purchased this Buck 373 back in 2006 (I believe due to the date stamp) and started trying to perfect my sharpening skills etc. while this is a Chinese made Buck, and is really not anything extra special, it is special to me because it was my first of what would become many in my renewed interest and search for good quality effective cutting tool, and I like to think of this one as where my current collection started
Thanks for sharing your story with us.

I went through a little “weapons” phase myself. It turned out I found that I always carried a pocket knife too, because I feel naked without my knife. I just never really liked those other types. Now it’s mostly stockmans, trappers, other slip joints, and the buck 110 is as close as I get to tactical.

I went through the same things with guns. But I’ve come back to 22s, revolvers, and lever actions. It’s hard to beat a fine knife and a Winchester or Marlin 30-30 when afield.

Thanks a lot Gary, it was pretty crazy for it to be in the 90's still at midnight here! 102 right now, and I'm sitting here like a rose between two fans! 🤣 Hope you're getting some shade yourself my friend :) That's a beautiful pairing, love that Nealy  :)

I see that on sale ads ~ “Good Runner. Needs Fixed.” or on ebay, etc. and want to tell them ~ “TO BE!” “You forgot the danged verb!”🤨

Never realized it might be a regional thing.
I had an aunt who always slipped an r into words like wash...
Yes, I enjoy hearing different dialects.
The car needs warshed, and these knives need sharpened.

Off to town in a short while. First stop will be at the post office to mail my Rifle & Pistol Club membership renewal and a package for a BF member. Can't say what the package contains. Then it's off to the hardware store for a new ribbon hose and then the usual stops at the Holiday Market, 4-Corners Market, Grocery Outlet, and then around town to see what's going on. The Auction Yard is pretty much closed now a days and has gone virtual with only small Saturday sales most of the time. Oh, can't forget a stop at the Indian Reservation gas station. It's hot and with the truck's AC going, the mileage drops to about 14 miles per gallon. Regardless, we're not giving up our twice weekly rides around town and the local areas. Some of you guys and gals have been showing off your Tony Bose 2016 Shot Show ebony, single blade, Sowbelly, knives so what the heck - I'll tote mine today. Have a great day everyone.
