I really appreciate you sharing your old Camillus, Schrade Cut Co, and Cattaraugus collection, Rob.
I found this Sword Brand EO jack a few years ago to match Grandpaās knife, which I donāt want to carry.
My Grandpaās family came from Scotland, and found work in the Eastern Tennesse coal mines. His father was killed in a huge mine disaster in 1906, leaving his Mom to raise three boys and a daughter. She took in washing and other odd jobs, raised a huge garden, and the boys hunted small game and foraged wild plants like watercress, dandelion, huckleberries, etc to survive. At some point, he left home and made his way. Iām not sure when, probably in the ā20s or ā30s, he saved up and bought a Camillus Sword Brand Jackknife, which he carried for the rest of his life. I remember sitting on his lap and him letting me handle it. That is the knife with which he showed me how to sharpen a blade.
When he passed, Grandma gave me his knives. His old jack had a lot of sharpening wear, and the secondary spring had broken, but it was HIS knife, and I think he carried it to the end.
This one makes a good user, and brings me good memories.
Used it yesterday in the garden. Cleaned off some plant residue, re-oiled it, and got it again today.
