What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Your family's Halloween choices are always so imaginative and clever Barrett  :)

Thanks, Jack. It’s funny because I’ve never really cared about Halloween all that much, but I do enjoy helping the girls with fun/silly costumes. I will say, if you look at them all back to back, you’ll notice that it’s only ever other year or so that gets the DIY/creative effort, after which I usually need a year off and just we buy a costume. 😁

Do they have an article about the health benefits of chicken fried steak? 😉 I do my best to eat my vegetables, but some of them (like beets, brussel sprouts, eggplant) are out of my comfort zone. 😁

Good Evening Porch Friends
I spent the day at Disneyland, mostly in Star Wars Land.
We also did some Disneyland favorites, and will return when the sun goes down.

I figured I’d carry reasons I don’t need a certain new GEC 1 and 2

Now that’s what they should’ve done with the Sudbuster! Three spring with the drop point, caplifter and a sheepsfoot. A real pocket-filler! 😎

I have been carrying these 2 and wearing this old 2004 Jackaru hat to work outside most of the week and again today .

Harry

Hope you’re staying cool, Harry! 🤠

Thank you Mr. Jack. I like the wood on that lamb your totin' a lot. ☺️ .................................. I like that horn on mine quite a lot as well. Hope it behaves over time ! ;)😊
Thank you Mr P, just Rosewood, but I picked it out at the factory, under the old administration ;) Horn should be OK, so long as you keep it out of extreme heat
Perfect pair of sweet slicers to go with your tasty confections; hopefully you had some cooler weather for your market adventures! :D
Thanks JJ :) Yes, down in the low 70's yesterday, so a lot more pleasant :)
Hi friends! Been a few weeks! I was in Mexico for vacation and I had this Pioneer SAK on me the whole time. My trip got cut short because I contracted “the vid” and I’m back home recovering. Logging back onto Bladeforums and seeing Charlie’s 2022 Bladeforums thread and his proposed knife sure made me a whole lot happier when I needed it though! Hope everyone is doing well and as soon as I’m feeling a bit better I’m looking forward to spending a lot more time here on the porch and Bladeforums again 😃

Toting these two spears today. :)
An admirable pair my friend, beautifully photographed
Nice to see the Big 'Un getting cake duty again... Hope you had fun. 🤠
Thanks John, I had to restrain my friend from getting into that cake with a bread knife  He knows better than that! :D

They go well together Harry :)

I think, as we mature (or simply get older), we enjoy things more vicariously, through our children. Once they're grown up, those 'silly' activities, and festivals, are no longer the same of course, so enjoy them while you can my friend :) I, for one, don't miss children's birthday parties though, I have to admit! 🤣

It's been quite a week here in Britain, with some record-breaking temperatures, and I'm glad to get back to some more moderate temperatures, for now, at least  I hope everyone had a good week, and that you're looking forward to the weekend :) Carrying my Bagpipe Ebony Big 'Un, and an Old Friend :)

Your 5OT looks great!! That's the Old Timer lockback at the top of my list because of the size and drop point blade.

Carried the HHB on this Alaskan vacation!

Fascinating pair of pics, Taylor, that shows that "It's all relative." Your rosewood HHB looks like an old warrior beside a fresh beer, but on the bumper of that rusty old Ford, the same HHB looks almost pristine!

Post Office sent me an e-mail yesterday, please come and collect a package. Intrigued, not expecting anything....a great benefactor from France had sent me a fine Horn handled Regional with 'gutter' bolsters. Quel surprise! Really bonded with it and it's been on Apple atrocity duties already

Many thanks indeed 🤩

Congrats on the generous gift / handsome horn knife, Will!

These two are really hungry for some apples.

You gotta feed the beasts!

I've wondered about that myself. For no good reason, I'd like to know how many members are primarily on a desktop/laptop vs. a phone.
I cordially invite someone to set up that thread poll, please! (I'm trying to maintain my unbroken record of starting 0 threads.)
I don't even have a smart phone, so I'm all laptop, all the time.

The heat wave across the pond has made it on to the front page here! Any Porch members from Spain recognize this brave gent? 🇪🇸

I'm not from Spain, and I don't recognize him. Is that someone famous, or just a random guy? King Felipe? Rafael Nadal? I give up!

Added my horn Lambs Foot to my pocket for photos under the big ole shade tree. The lamb made it's first trip to Granny's Diner this morning.

Handsome horn lambsfoot you've acquired, Robb; I like the uniform feathering!

Took my truck for service to the same place I always do. It’s a shop run by a friend I’ve known since Jr. High. His dad started this shop in 1961, and my buddy has worked there all his life. He serviced my truck while I sat and talked to his dad, in green leather chairs with broken springs. They sit in the same corner as they did when he first opened the shop. In fact, everything is in the same place as it was when he opened the shop, it’s a frozen moment in time. He told me about his 8 years in the navy and the time he spent in Japan and Hawaii, or Ha-why-ya, as he says it. He’s earned the right to say it anyway he chooses. They are the same stories he tells me every time I take my truck for service, and I enjoy them more each time. He asks about my family and tells me that my wife is a keeper and that I’m lucky to have her. Then he tells me what a sweet lady my mom was and reminds me that he used to change her oil too. He says he and his wife used to go to the restaurant where my mom worked because she treated them right, and he’d leave a good tip. He tells me all these things in the time it takes my buddy to service my truck, perfect timing, a fine Swiss timepiece. I paid my bill and he sent me home with some vegetables from his garden, a handshake, and a thank you. There is nothing like a small town. 😊View attachment 1875963
Enjoyable story, knife, and produce, Todd!

You're a master of cover materials, Steve! IIRC, in the past 3 days you've posted 3 primo pairs of knives with handles of micarta, of bone, and of wood.

I love 😍 stuff like this. I've been getting my hair cut at a one man/one chair barber shop in Tennessee. The last time I was in there the mayor was getting his hair cut, and a cop in uniform came in to get his cut. A couple of other guys came in and everybody knew everybody, and where everybody was hunting, and who was buying what property, etc., etc. The barber has a loading press in the corner for those slow times, and a Chihuahua that makes sure everybody is OK before returning to his bed under said loading press. Basically, it was Floyd's barbershop from the Andy Griffith show :D
Warms my heart that these places still exist
I had this pen knife in my pocket, the last time I was in - shoot, I don't even know the name of the place. It's on the corner across from the courthouse in Jamestown, Tennessee ;)

And I've been carrying this slim trapper around today

After spotting Jack Black Jack Black 's new French beauty I grabbed these two relatives. :)
That Carmargue cross on the bottom knife is IMHO the best bolster stamp ever, JJ!

It’s been hot today, but these two have been easy to carry.

What's the knife on the right? I think it's really cool and reminds me of knives from my youth back in the 50s and 60s.

Home carry I figured a hot dog shield was fitting for today. Happy National hot dog day
Cool photo; looks like a great time! Don't you have a Rawlings glove in addition to this Wilson?

I’ve liked my full size sodbuster for quite a while so I figured it was about time to try the jr size. Got this one in the mail today. Sharp, snappy, centered, no play, she’s a looker too.

View attachment 1876359
Congrats on that amber bone model! I prefer the size of the SBJr to the full sized Sod Buster.

I think this was the only time in my life I’ve ever handled a beet. 🤣

Visually stimulating Halloween pic, Barrett! But my knowledge of current pop culture is woefully inadequate: what role do the beets play in the tableau?? (And did the stapler survive being gelatinized??)

Case pen knife today. It’s starting to get a little patina.

"A copper. A copper! How do ya like that, boys? ... And I fell for it!"

That's a beauty with the Micarta and Hotdog shield. 🤠
Thanks, John.

The dogs were for sure! I have a partner in the cattle business. He took care of everything while I was gone. The cattle didn’t seem to care 😁
Having a partner is a great idea. I grew up on a dairy farm, and my Dad never had more than 12 hours off until my brothers and I were high school age.

Thanks again Gary :) I always think that your #72 looks like both a great worker, and also a classy knife
Thanks, Jack. I figure that, even though I'm neither great worker nor classy myself, I can at least carry a knife with those qualities.

Thanks, Gary. And you have a sharp memory. I’ll bet you’re a champ at parlor games.
Yes, it’s the same knife, beauty mark and all.

A nice gift from Harry when we met up at the Badger Knife Show.
Thanks for the confirmation, Jeff. My memory isn't what it used to be, but those Loewen Messers are pretty rare on The Porch, so they stick in my head.

Admirable knife, José! Is that your summer hat behind the knife?

...
On the pile side, is your bail securely attached?
My Amber Bone RR Scout/Camp wasn't properly peened, allowing the bail to come off the pin. I lack the tools to fix it, so it spends its time on the display shelf, rather than in my pocket or clipped to a belt loop. ☹️
I think this is my third RR scout (I gave away the first two), and I never noticed a problem with the bail on any of them.

I am up early and preparing to get my walk in, as well as some other chores, before the heat sets in. Felt like multi-tasking today, which is rarely the case around here now days. Well, actually I felt more like it yesterday, when I cleaned up my grubby phone and took this picture. I then opted for a nap and put it off until today. I reckon the phone gets more use than my knives do, though I hate to admit that. But not every day. I figure stainless steel is a good choice on these hot and humid days. 😊

Thanks, GT! Scout was dressed up as the character Dwight Schrute from the US version of The Office, who, among other unusual hobbies and interests, is a beet farmer.

The stapler-in-Jello was a prank played on Dwight in the show, and was easily the most difficult part of that costume. 🤣 I had to suspend the stapler in the unset Jello using fishing line and a ruler, and I ended up having to do the whole thing three times. The first two times the Jello was too soft, and would split apart when I took it out of the bowl I was using as a mold. I had to use more Jello mix, about half the water, and two or three additional packets of gelatin to create an unnaturally firm Jello that would hold up. The stapler did survive! 😁

Nice staged photo and Scout ! I also enjoyed the one you posted recently with the child (guessing that might be yours) lying down around Halloween. 😍
Third times a charm ! 🤣

P.S. - No beets for me !!!!!!!!!!!!!
