What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

More catch-up quotes from last week, with me using my "one comment per page" limitation (that I violated once or twice in this batch).

Carrying the cattle knife today, and got this pic as the sun was coming up. I had to go check the water (for the cows) early today because it's my annual 15 hour bus driver training. Nothing like sitting in a hard chair in the bus barn for 15 hours watching videos. School starts in 3 days.
Those new GEC cattle knives are desirable, and you've posted a fantastic photo of yours!

Both bear beauteous bone, Steve!

Been a long time since a couple of nice women asked to see my moves!😞
Jeff, I'm sure you could change that if you started visiting the swimming pool wearing your Speedo (or at least shirtless with chest waders). 😁

Army 1 today.

Mustang and a Calf Roper, what more do you need

Looks like you're set to be the Top Cowboy at the Ironwood Rodeo, Steve!

The Explorer is one of the best, but that particular knife is the discontinued, hard-to-find, 2 layer Scientist.

Thanks for posting that new-to-me SAK model, Mike!

Grabbed a couple of old cocobolo cover workers today. :)
Vibrant pair of vintage knives, JJ!

I feel like a schedule would be a great way for me to start carrying more of my other knives! There’s some I haven’t carried and used in over a year! Sounds really fun
...
One of the advantages of the schedule I used was that every knife essentially had equal carry time. But I'll admit that I enjoy some of my knives more than others, so the new schedule I'm slowly working on will have me carrying my Top Ten knives in various categories much more frequently than my other, not-as-favorite, knives.

A muskrat and a toothpick today.
...
Notable pair, Jon! I've always admired that stag muskrat, and I like the toothpick pattern (although I prefer a 2-bladed toothpick).

I'll bet you won that day's prize for highest average number of blades per knife, Jeff!!

Northwoods Presidential today.

Most Northwoods knives really don't move the needle very much for me, but those Presidentials always get my pulse racing!

Thanks bud,

Of to Spain and Portugal all September the difficult decision is what to take, good to have choices.
I hope you have a wonderful trip!
My daughter lived in Madrid for several years, and I made it there to visit her once almost 8 years ago. She took me to Sevilla, Granada, Toledo, Valencia, and Denia (a little town on Spain's east coast that's the closest to the Ballearic Islands), and I was able to find at least one cuchilleria in each of those places, and purchase a knife as a souvenir of my visit.

I tried the pen blade of my gunny peeling spuds last week,it did well.
Sounds like a good use of a pen blade, but I never peel my potatoes - whether baked/nuked, boiled, or fried, I eat them with the skins on.

These two today.

Captivating classics! I don't think of myself as a Barlow fan, but those 49x Böker Barlows with the tree bolster stamp always catch my attention.

I left Eastern Wyoming today and drove up through the big horns over to Cody Wyoming where I’ll stay with another friend. Beautiful drive today, a little rain up in the mountains which is always a good thing.

I've been enjoying your photos of your trip! I've never been to any of the places you've been traveling through, and the landscape is unlike any places that I have visited.

Haha! I thought it might be a knife loss mitigation measure. I can totally envision that whole situation 😁 I’m glad you enjoyed your vacation.

Thanks, Todd. I hope he likes it and hopefully he doesn’t lose it! I showed him my first knife when we were looking through my knives the other night (also a SAK).

Thanks, John. I think it will do everything he needs a knife to do.

Thanks, Paul. That’s very cool. The Farmer was the other one I was considering. What kid wouldn’t want a saw blade in their pocket? My local sportsman store had the Pioneer X in stock and I figured the scissors are handy for a lot of things.

I’ve been eying that one too. It will probably be my next Case purchase.
Yeah, vacation was nice, as always, and I was glad I was able to apply my risk averse personality to my knife photos experience.
I'll jump on the bandwagon of approval of your choice of a first knife for your son! My first knife, at about 9 or 10 years old, was my Colonial Forest-Master camp knife, and I can't imagine I could have had some other knife that I'd have liked more. It remained essentially my only knife until I was 62 years old (and then I went nuts on knives). I was stoked about the saw when I got my first Farmer as an old man, and there's a good chance I'll pick up a Farmer X one of these days, as well, to add the scissors to the "Alox tool box".

You're welcome Gary. Not sure how much good it will do you. The Scientist is almost a grail Vic. They don't pop up too often and when they do there are folks willing to pay GEC prices for them. After I discovered their existence, I kept an eye out for year or so. Eventually, I had the brilliant, some would say reckless, idea of buying couple of used Explorers and Waiters with the intention of building my own Scientist. As these things are wont to do, shortly after purchasing the donor knives, but before embarking down the path of destruction, I stumbled on to this one for an eminently reasonable price and snapped it up. I think I'll eventually try making one out of the donor knives just for grins.
Kicked back in my recliner chair watching the rain delayed NASCAR race on CNBC and my Tribal Lock is watching it with me. Sausage and eggs for breakfast.

I was going to watch the race last night. I don't receive cnbc, so it'll be NCIS reruns. Nice Tribal  They do tend to multiply :D

I don’t blame him. I can be fairly nebulous when people ask where I fish for smallmouth. But I probably don’t need to worry. It’s about a mile wade to get there.
Back when I fished a lot, before adulting got in the way, I was very general when commenting on the location.
What is your preferred method for smallies? I love fly fishing for all species.
Short line Sunday?

Those knives look great. Wish they could talk and tell what they have seen.

Thanks Gary !!! :)
Derrick Bohn had to sell me on it. He'd opened a thread here, in 2015, about how slow moving they were and he really couldn't understand why.
There was talk of blade rub. Some had it and some didn't. Mine does or did, very slightly ... if it even still does. I've gently "massaged" it a bit here and there.
And while I wasn't "hell bent" on getting one, I sure have been happy with the Northwoods Presidential. A wonderful traditional knife.
... but there are many wonderful examples of traditional knives ... and you too have a few, Gary

Had a great week here in KC, it's such a magical place to live! Nice weather and I took myself down to Harry J. Epstein's for some hand tools. It occurred to me on the way there that people who don't live in Kansas City can't just drive downtown and go broke in style on their day off, but you can order via. internet or phone. Happy to talk hand tools anytime if ya' pm me.

This is what the inside of a hardware store should look like. There's the owner eating lunch on his feet, and his son behind him scurrying about. They're wonderful people and I always enjoying jawing with them while they separate me from my ill-gotten gains. They refilled both my drill indexes for 20 bucks, without making a pile of packaging like the big box stores.

2RpBM0Cm.jpg

No prices on anything here. If you have to ask, you can't afford a 2 1/2" SK open end wrench.

My haul, and knives.

More KC magic, or was it the Beer Scout in my pocket... 🤔 Boulevard Brewing Co. is here, they hand the stuff out like candy. I can most always score free suds if I call around, and sometimes I score a flat of the craft beers that I would not pay for myself. They can be delicious, but no beer is worth 4+ dollars per bottle to me - might dig into the knife budget.
