What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Had a great week here in KC, it's such a magical place to live! Nice weather and I took myself down to Harry J. Epstein's for some hand tools. It occurred to me on the way there that people who don't live in Kansas City can't just drive downtown and go broke in style on their day off, but you can order via. internet or phone. Happy to talk hand tools anytime if ya' pm me.

This is what the inside of a hardware store should look like. There's the owner eating lunch on his feet, and his son behind him scurrying about. They're wonderful people and I always enjoying jawing with them while they separate me from my ill-gotten gains. They refilled both my drill indexes for 20 bucks, without making a pile of packaging like the big box stores.

No prices on anything here. If you have to ask, you can't afford a 2 1/2" SK open end wrench.

My haul, and knives.

More KC magic, or was it the Beer Scout in my pocket... 🤔 Boulevard Brewing Co. is here, they hand the stuff out like candy. I can most always score free suds if I call around, and sometimes I score a flat of the craft beers that I would not pay for myself. They can be delicious, but no beer is worth 4+ dollars per bottle to me - might dig into the knife budget.

More shanks. Hope some of you Porchlings caught a good one too ;)

Nice pics - surprising to find out how many things there are to buy in a shop like this when you didn't even know you needed them when walking through the door...:)

There's a birthday on the horizon for my feline buddy. 😊 🐾 🐈‍⬛

Great stuff! Will the Hero of the Day be getting a special 'cake' or treat? My Princess, PIpp is a Fish type but she enjoys, Chicken and Redmeats. Liver and offal she won't touch, nor will I.... She added a new tally to her grisly list of victims - a Bat!! How the devil she can catch one of them??? But up in the loft and later on down the stairs to present me with a not touching gift, I'm a fan of Bats they do a lot of good. We're still not really talking to each other.... ;)

Very cool named Opinel there, he must be worth it! 😻

Thanks, Will

I haven't left the house for a few days what with planning my trip to Spain so HAD to get out today.

Looked around a few antique shop had a coffee and a pasty at a very nice place.

On the way back read some of my book and fell asleep on the bench in some sleepy Cotswold village.

They had a very old, battered cob web encrusted phone I lifted up the receiver but no dialling tone, are there any working public phones anymore?

As for the Remi beats me why people dont rave about it as its one of the best knives I ever had, perhaps its good the collector sharks aren't keen on it. 😆

Love my 77 SAK as well, another tool I like using and do most days.

Johnnythefox Johnnythefox I like your new Stag Gunstock more
But I'm kind of disappointed the Phonebox didn't have a DIAL instrument :D

I envy your motoring tour of Iberia, Portugal in particular is a place I liked a lot. It will be a wonderful trip I'm sure.
Thanks for that, they are both nice but the Remi just edges it in use over gunny.

still I am lucky to have both.

Jeff, I'm sure you could change that if you started visiting the swimming pool wearing your Speedo (or at least shirtless with chest waders). 😁

I'll bet you won that day's prize for highest average number of blades per knife, Jeff!!

🥹 I never had a Speedo, even in my lifeguard/swim team days. They’re too,,,
graphic.🤮 But I do have waders…
Anyway, thanks for sharing your tactics!😆
Back when I fished a lot, before adulting got in the way, I was very general when commenting on the location.
What is your preferred method for smallies? I love fly fishing for all species.

Those knives look great. Wish they could talk and tell what they have seen.
I do need new flyline! Bluegills and pond bass are lots of fun on the fly rod.
Seems like since I was a teenager wading the Fox River, Big Rock Creek in Illinois, and the Big Niangua and Gasconnade Rivers in the Ozarks, and others, my standby has always been an Ambassadeur casting reel, and a not too long rod. I have a couple of 5000s, but my current favorite is the smaller one ~ 5500? and an Ugly Stik. #2 Silver Aglia Squirrel Tail Mepps never lets me down. The other thing I sometimes use is an ultra light spinning rig so I can cast little jigs.

You’re so lucky to have a real hardware store near you! I refuse to buy the MIC junk they sell at the big chains.

Couple more weeks, and that will be your outdoors knife photo!

Popping bugs on a 3 weight flyrod when the May, willow, fish flies are falling onto the water's surface and the feeding frenzy is on is an awesome day.
Mepps is always a go to. Sounds like a great setup. I have caught one smallie on a flyrod. Even a flyrod set up for smallies, it is a thrill.
Personal option is, pound for pound smallies fight way harder than largemouth do.
