What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

A couple photos look like a thin sheet of ice. Is it that cold at nice or just the angle of the photo?

I'm desk bound today. They (the docs) did some surgery on my gum and pulled two teeth yesterday so, I'm not venturing too far from my recliner today. Sorry if I haven't acknowledged some of your posts but I'll try to catch up over the weekend. I'm totin this newly arrived Buck 501 Squire that I got in a trade with Mike @mbkr . I'll cover the trade in the Whats your newest Traditional thread. It's a beauty.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

I had a little out patient procedure this morning and I'm still poking around the shop in my pajama bottoms, so I'm not really carrying anything today. Here is my shop knife an today's project.

Do you have pattern books or just freehand the faces?
Awesome work

I had no idea I had leopard print glasses. Now I feel really hip 😁

Pretty impressive picture, with your glasses on the table, be like channeling Mr Magoo😮😂......well it would in my case

That is a classic beauty right there!
You don’t seem to see too many 54 Whittlers, I had one wunst; not your sister’s Whittler - that is a handful of knife!
Thanks! I wish I had picked up another #54 Whittler when they were available in ‘08. Who would have thought GEC would never have made them again. I passed on all the #54s since hoping they would bring out the Whittler again, but instead to the best of my recollection they’ve all been Big Jacks and Moose with the exception of some single blade SFOs. However, next time I see #54 anything on the production schedule, I’m all in; I’m partial to big knives anyway!🙂

Beautiful carving as always. Hope you're recovering well, Jim.

I'm new to traditionals,
may I ask the purpose in the design of that blades blades tip?
That is what is sometimes called a One Armed Opener Blade . Thought to originally made during our Civil War , early 1860's , for people who lost an arm during the war . The tip supposedly would be able to catch on an edge , although it looks like there is not much of a hook on the blade tip of that Boker made Russell Commemorative . Beautiful knife and the ones that I have handled were very well made .
I only have one with that type blade .

It is a Bulldog Barlow and appears to have more of a hook than the Boker and it did work when I tried it .
