I usually don’t share personal information here on the porch. I haven’t been real active lately until the last few days. My beautiful bride of 37 years had surgery for stage one lung cancer two weeks ago. The doc told us that he has been doing this for a long time and if he was a betting man he’d bet that he got it all. We wouldn’t know for sure until the pathology report came back. Well it came back yesterday and the next time I go to Vegas I’m taking him! All gone with no further treatment needed except for monitoring. Of course the knife gods smiled upon me and delivered this gorgeous #59 on the same day .

Given the excessive heat and the smoke, it was probably a good idea to cancel the game. Schools around here have been cancelling all their practices and events to keep the kids safe. Enjoy your bit of free time, my friend.

Feeling like a kid today:

The slingshot was a handmade gift from Crazy Canuck . I'm going to make some clay balls to shoot out at my friend's property (I'm hoping they'll blow apart in an entertaining way and no worries about stray steel shot in the brush)
I'm also hoping to do a little clean/oil/sharpen fettling on this Abram Brooksbank Jack Black sent. It's in my watch pocket for now. Thanks, Jack. It's a beaut!

Terrific news!!!! As to sharing personal news here on the porch, I've found it helps me sometimes. Kinda like kicking your thoughts around with a group of friends over a cup of coffee.

They’re too thick for coffee filters, but maybe those masks would be good for flitzing and oiling knives.
Besides medical offices, the only use I have for masks lately is when I move wood chips and they’re full of mold spores. Dangerous stuff.

The clay balls for slingshot ammo is a great idea. I’ll have to think about where to get some clay. Last weekend, I replaced the 6x6 post that my gate is hung on, and finally reached clay 40 inches down. I should have saved some.

Jack knew exactly who to give that veteran whittler to! Please show it after your fettling!
