What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Football game cancelled due to smoke from a close wild fire. So I’m trying to make the best of it!

Thank you very kindly, Jack!!! :)

Always great to see your pan channel pairing of two extraordinary slicers; your cool catapults always look like a blast to deploy, as well! 😃 👍👍
Many thanks my friend, I'm looking forward to getting back to doing some plinking 🙂👍
Paired up a fixed and a jack today. :)
It's great to see that very cool FB again JJ, and I find tortoiseshell acrylic very attractive. A very handsome combination 😎👍
I'll be donating this knife and sheath to an auction benefiting Agriculture Education.
A few people wanted to see it when I was finished, and I didn't want to start a separate thread.

That's bad news Taylor, but I'm glad you had a nice smoke of your own 👍

I'm new to traditionals,
may I ask the purpose in the design of that blades blades tip?
Harry beat me to the answer but I’ll add that while this one doesn’t have a pronounced tip it does work. I hook it on the seam of my jeans and it opens. The pull is a bit light but that may be by design as it helps with the one hand opening.
Pretty impressive picture, with your glasses on the table, be like channeling Mr Magoo😮😂......well it would in my case
When I looked at my glasses I wondered if they looked blurry to everyone else. 🤣
Such a cool knife... need to see that one more often. ;)
Thanks, John. I need to carry it more often.
And butterflies for me? 😁
I was saving the fish for you, but you can have the butterflies too.😁

Very awesome work, and a great cause.

That is what is sometimes called a One Armed Opener Blade . Thought to originally made during our Civil War , early 1860's , for people who lost an arm during the war . The tip supposedly would be able to catch on an edge , although it looks like there is not much of a hook on the blade tip of that Boker made Russell Commemorative . Beautiful knife and the ones that I have handled were very well made .
I only have one with that type blade .

It is a Bulldog Barlow and appears to have more of a hook than the Boker and it did work when I tried it .

Harry
Thank you so much for your informative answer. Old dogs can learn.

Thank you so much for helping me understand the story behind this design.

Really great to see that Jim, wonderful atmosphere in the workshop and the shop on the street, a sight fast vanishing I fear. Even though Finnish and Hungarian are in the same 'family' of languages, they're certainly not mutually intelligible . Despite this I was 'told' by some very overbearing pompous moron from The British Council that they certainly were ....like he knew  Some Slavic or Scandinavian languages are kind of mutually intelligible though. Finnish & Estonian are pretty similar, well Estonians can understand Finns sort of but the other way round....not really:D

Great knives those from the long Magyar tradition, I do wish they were a bit less keen on the brass though :D

Thanks, Will

I always found it odd that they would put a secondary pen blade on those knives, given the purpose of the main blade's shape. 🤣
Given the excessive heat and the smoke, it was probably a good idea to cancel the game. Schools around here have been cancelling all their practices and events to keep the kids safe. Enjoy your bit of free time, my friend.

Thank you, Jack. :)
I donated a couple last year and was pleased to see the amount of money they brought in for the kids.
Fantastic photo, Jack. 🤠
Also, excellent choices on all three knives.
