What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Oh I am, but *not* for hoarding lumber anymore 🤪 Honestly been thinking about picking up one of the portable sawmills, so I can be that friend. It pains me to see how much excellent hardwood goes to the chipper around here. Thanks for being an enabler, Jeff!

They're up there with traditional folders, amiright? Mine is made by Simon Stonehocker, one of my favorite knifemakers. Cruwear @ 63+ hrc is amazing! Your new Boker Brookie is super fun looking, Bart. Seeing as you spend so much time with our bovine brethren, had you considered picking up a Cowbell?

This week was a ball-buster, been prepping my older Astro work van for sale. There's something kinda sad about getting something all fixed up and tidy only when it's time to sell it - wish I had done all this a few years back so I could have enjoyed it 😅. Here's hoping the Porch has a relaxing weekend, with lots of knife pictures!
Ideally, logs big enough to be milled go to the sawmill. The rest getting chipped is great. I have a big spot marked off for local arborists to dump chips.
What’s sad is seeing a grove of 300 year old oaks getting bulldozed into a pile and burned. That happened near here a few years ago near here to make room for a big retail developement that’s now 75% vacant.

My friend has one of the bigger Woodmizers, and it is fantastic. The thing is, you also need a tractor or a skid steer to get the logs onto the mill. And if you want to go elsewhere for the logs, you’ll need a flatbed for the skidsteer and logs, and a truck to pull it. That’s how we got my big ash log over to his mill. I’ve also gone with him to fell trees at other people’s property, and get them milled. He pays me back with some lumber. I need a wood shed!

2 more from the Imperial/Colonial/Old Timer Top Ten I'm carrying this week. (Haven't tried ranking the top ten, so I don't know if I'm showing off #7 and #8, or #3 and #6, or what.)
Chinese Imperial cracked ice sowbelly stockman for which quality per dollar is stratospheric IMHO:

Ian did not hit us nearly as bad as our southern brothers and sisters, stay safe down there. However we did lose power this morning so I did a reconnaissance hike to check the damage on the trail and to clear any of the smaller debris so the sawyers can get their carts in.

Pocket Boy and the Hammer brand camp were the tools of choice.

What I’m carrying isn’t all that important. We are hoping that Jeff @black mamba is ok. Pictured is the path of the hurricane, blue indicating where it flooded. My understanding is that Jeff was in an area that flooded. It is an absolute disaster down there, and I’m waiting to hear back from the wellness check I submitted. Praying for good news.
Less important but still beautiful, Jon. Thanks for doing the work to check on Jeff. Hopefully we will get good news soon.
Beautiful knife and stag, Paul…er, Ed. 🤣

I talked to the air crews here and there are continuous operations out of Clearwater to that area. This is certainly the most active I’ve seen the air station.
