Fantastic photo my friend, and I’m sure it brings fond memories of that beautiful dog.No, it's stainless. And I have to go back & edit the post to read FILSON vest instead of Wilson. (Darn spell check!)
Here's a pic of Sandy, proudly posing with his first pheasant retrieve. It's from around the time I last used that vest, and he's been dead for about 12 years.

I can relate. I have a couple of pristine Schrades and Schrade Waldens that I’m careful with. The 233 jack I used yesterday is one. There’s something about being trusted with custody of a knife from a company which no longer exists. It gets ‘toted‘ but to be honest not used an awful lot….most probably my least used knife as I just feel too guilty which is why I generally prefer user grade knives.

If you did not pick that out in person, someone in the online store chose some really nice wood for you.One of the nice things about the Boker Gent is that it is slender -- after a bit, you forget that it's even in your pocket.

Oh yeah! That Maine Guide Gear fueled my dreams. After all these years, I can still remember the LL Bean catalogues arriving, and poring through them to add to my fantasy list of gear for my own adventures yet to come. I can still remember my father tracing the outline of my feet on a piece of paper -- back in the day, you would send those into Bean's and they would use them to select the proper shoe size. Still remember receiving my first pair of Maine Guide Shoes that way.![]()
I see it was right where you left it. Even though asking “where did you leave it?” makes perfect sense, my wife never appreciates me asking.Well, I was on the same wavelength as John today and also carried my Bladeforums TC barlow, but I can’t post a picture. I took a picture this morning out in the pasture and since then I misplaced my phone. Hopefully it turns up tomorrow, I think I know where it is. Makes me feel old.![]()
Those are green onions, Gary. A variety called Guardsman, which grows a small bulb. They get pretty big, so we can hardly keep up with them. Supposed to have a light frost this weekend, but I expect it won’t hurt them at all. Some old quotes (mostly from the past weekend) that caught the eyes of an old guy trying to maintain
Couple of substantial knives, Jeff!
Garden-related question for you: are these leeks, scallions, shallots, green onions, or what? I'm convinced they're not red onions, yellow onions or Vidalias. When we moved into our house almost 38 years ago, these grew on their own every spring along the chain link fence between our back yard and the alley that runs past our property. For the past couple of years, they also seem to grow in some raised beds we built back there. (I suspect my wife may have transplanted some of them from their original location.) This year is the first time that we're getting a "second cutting" (as we used to say in the hay baling business), with these nice new ones coming up the past couple of weeks.

It is an awl.Glad you missed Ian's full force!
What's the blade "beyond the spear" on your Hammer brand scout: awl or pen (or something totally unexpected by me)?
Thanks mate.Fantastic photo my friend, and I’m sure it brings fond memories of that beautiful dog.
I recently submitted to an “urgent security update” from Apple, and to do so, had to free uo a significant chunk of memory, which was mostly my photos. Goodbye knife photos! But I carefully hung on to my people and my dog photos!

Love the wagon wheel!

Admitting it to yourself and others is a good start. This forum is where you need to be. You’ll probably never be cured, but it’s nice being around others with the same affliction. For support and encouragement, you know.
I thoroughly enjoyed your photos from your long ride, Jim.
You’ll be glad to be home, I’ll bet.
Nice burl on your headknocker, buddy!
