Jeff, the altitude was around 6400 feet so it didn’t help when a guy lives at sea level. The terrain was tough. We spotted the Elk at sunrise and spent the next 5 hours and 5 miles cross country to work within 350 yards belly crawling through the sagebrush. And my belly isn’t as small as it used to be so I had to stay extra low!!!I reloaded that page, blaming my fone.
Hey! Congatulations, Jim! You say “hardest earned”, was it the altitude, or terrain in getting it out, or hardest to find? Anyway, happy for your full freezer.
No idea what fried crappie is?This is the fruits of my labor from Saturday; I had this #77 in my pocket today. If you don’t like fried crappie, you don’t like nothin’.

Congratulations on the hunt, harvest and putting the present to workBeen a little absent this week. Drove 15 hours on Friday to get to Wyoming to do some hunting. Been toting a Buck 112 my daughter got me for my birthday this year. Got to put it to use yesterday on the hardest earned critter I’ve ever taken.

I've tried a bit of everything over the years, and my favorite wood for smoking is apple, with hickory running a close second. Apple gives meat a smokey/sweet flavor.New smoker came todayView attachment 1954869
That’s good, because we’re hosting Thanksgiving, and I like to smoke my turkey.
With that in mind, I picked up a few hickory nuts to plant. The plan is to let them grow for 125 to 150 years, and cut them up into chunks for my new smokerView attachment 1954873
While picking them up, I noticed this ant trying to figure out how to get this mushroom back to his nest.View attachment 1954871
We were checking a little valley today for elk and had to cross a small creek about 60 yards from where we parked the truck. My buddy has had Grizzly encounters within a few miles of this area before. Don’t think my stockman would’ve helped much, but maybe would’ve been painful for the bear when he passed it after eating meGood grief315 ! Where did you find those tracks?!
