What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

It is fer sure. I’m veey glad for the several Forum Knives i was able to vote on and buy, and this one is awesome. I remember that Half Stop Ron gave one to Harry Old Engineer Old Engineer , and his praise for that model made me appreciate it more. He’s a Knife Influencer. 😎
To tell the whole story Jeff : I bought 2 of the 2019 BF Knives and gifted them both to 2 relatives who said that they really liked it . Back in those days both Ron & I would buy a couple . Then Ron found out that I did that and he gifted me one . I still miss being able to call him up and talk . Between the 3 Redezvous and our visits , he and I had some great discussions . I carry the 2019 BF Knife a lot because IMO it is a great knife for me and it also was given to me by my best friend . And I am carrying it now to use outside .

what do you think of the new old timer USA’s?
Got it just to try it but like it more than I expected to. The example I got is solid, no gaps, sharp, nice W&T and F&F. No blade or frame interference, no blade rap, good nail nick positioning and none of the blades stand too proud so feels good in use, especially for it's size. Nice half-stop on the main clip blade, none on the others - I'm fine with that. I'd like it more for a little less scratch but not a deal breaker at it's retail price.

It's dwarfed by the Granddaddy Barlow but makes a nice complement to larger knives - I've also carried it alongside GEC's recent English Jack and felt like it played it's role well.

I think I heard speculation that it's manufactured by Bear & Son - if that's the case, it's a cut above the Remington Trail Guide Barlow I received from them. no noticeable recurve on any of the blades, jigging pattern could be somewhat more refined but again, it works. No cracks or noticeable chipping anywhere on the covers, pins are all polished flush.

One of the best parts was that I didn't have to fight to get one. Just added to cart and checked out leisurely. imagine that - just buying a knife like a regular person. it was pleasant. I don't care about rarity, I just don't believe I'm that special -- but I do value the ability to get a quality tool at a decent price with zero aggravation.

Your mileage may vary.

Nice color combo, and just a cheerful looking pair. 👌
Stainless steel for this cloudy dreary day. Camillus 72 and a Joseph Rodgers Lamb

I carried the same combo yesterday, and truthfully, a guy could easily live with just those two.
Case 6383 chestnut bone whittler and Fight'n Rooster in the pockets.
I didn't necessarily need a corkscrew knife when I found the Rooster but the handsome wood scales and
4" closed length appealed to me. Glad I took the plunge. The flat grind blades slice like a dream and both blades plus the corkscrew have gator snap in both directions.
The deep blade etch is also something I like, not gonna wear off quickly with use.
The Case 83 whittler is a pattern who's frame shape appeals to my sense of aesthetics, handy little buggers too. :)

Very cool new knife, Greg. 🤙
I remember your 6308 Whittler. Is this 83 a little bigger?
Just put this big ol’ #54 in my pocket today for 5/4…May the 4th Be With You…

Fine looking Big Jack. 🤙
Don’t wait a full year til next time, though.

Took a flyer and picked up this Vic Scientist which has been assembled out of parts knives. The handles are some kind of plastic. They have a good feel and a little texture for good grip. Whoever made them did a pretty decent job.

While taking these pics...what's this? A loose screw? Ha! Got this covered.
View attachment 2174938View attachment 2174939

Nope, it won't tighten up. Now, folks more particular than I am, might remove the rain guage mount, fill the hole with wood filler, and reinstall. Or maybe just slightly move the entire mount and reattach. Not me. Nope. Just needs a bigger screw :D

Really like the inline Phillips
I have tool boxes in both vehicles, the garage, the basement, and some tools in a kitchen drawer, so I'm never far from good tools; but the SAK screwdrivers get more use than my real screwdrivers.

I’m not 100%, but I believe that’s just the tang stamp that is used on the GEC stainless 440c stuff. It’s usually in the same position where they stamp “Titusville iron works” on the 1095 blades. Not sure if there’s any exceptions to that statement though haha
I believe that the Cyclops Works stamp was used on earlier stainless releases, the ones with Squirells & Acorns blade etch? Later on it was omitted and the Squirrels were displaced by a more pedestrian shield, boring. However, it would have been cool if the Cyclops stamp was a picture of the mythical Greek ogre  Possibly the original Cyclops Works had it.

Thanks, yes it was. In my opinion, it had particular ugly stag with no redeeming features at all. So I sanded it a little and then jigged it. The other side turned out better because there was more material to work with, but the color isn’t as interesting. View attachment 2171109

That's an amazing jigging job, Todd! 😲:thumbsup:
What tool(s) did you use, and how did you plan the pattern of jigging?

Stag lockback, very compact 3 3/8" but nice thick slabs for grip.

Impressive knife, Will!:thumbsup::cool: The curved frame, barlow-like bolster, drop point blade, and dark stag are all very attractive features.

Back to a shine on my 1970 Case SAB Hunter .............. I decided to take the patina off. A 1971 stag stockman will ride in the watch pocket. 😊

Very beautiful Green  Well, perhaps dowdy is too harsh..;) but I find it less of a temptation than the tractor:D

I like all of these GEC #38s; their "toothpickiness" appeals to me!:cool::thumbsup:

A cloudy start to the day in the City by the Bay! Looks like rain tomorrow and that probably means Ed will be getting some snow up north. Keeping me company today is the usual lamb and a ham. Bring on the Lakers! 😀

Splendid pair of light-colored knives!:cool::cool:
I've always thought that Curry guy is an amazing player, but I think I've underestimated him!

Camillus Stockman and Klein lockback in a sheath. View attachment 2171371
I took this one apart, and handled it with smooth stag (the bark on the stag was ugly). I’m loving how it’s aging into a yellowish, ivory color, and it’s silky smooth in my hand.View attachment 2171372
It’s a late production Camillus, without a midel number, but the blades are krinked perfectly, with no rub, and smooth walk ‘n talk.View attachment 2171373View attachment 2171374

Superb stockman, Jeff, and the stag rehandle looks fantastic!:thumbsup::cool:

I've had an opinel #8 drop point gardener for a while and it's just big enough where it never leaves the drawer. Reading the opinel thread got me to try again and this #7 in carbon steel showed up Friday along with the scoring knife for the Mrs. (chestnut and garlic knife I guess it used to be called).
View attachment 2171520

I sanded the sides flat, gave it a bit of an easy open slot, and added a lanyard hole. Hit it with the homebrew paste wax on the outside and mineral oil on the inside.

I'm going to try and give it 30 days. So far it is day 3. Off the top of my head, It has prepped dinner, opened a few packages, sliced some leather, made some wood shims and stripped wire ends. It's not even dirty yet! I did have to run it across some leather last night to bring the edge back up.

So far so good. Great little knife. It's not much smaller than the #8 gardener but the difference made it just right. You can see the difference in this phot, especially the collars.

Have a good week, everyone!
Congrats on the new Opinel, and super job of "personalizing" it!:thumbsup::cool: I have experience with only the #6, #7, and #8 Opinels, and of that trio, the #7 is my favorite size.

Went out this mornin to be greeted by one of my Redbuds doing it’s early spring thing.
Redbud is a very nice ornamental.View attachment 2171563
Like that photo, Jeff. :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
When we moved into our house 38 years ago, the yard on the north side of the house along the alley was basically a scraggly grass slope with a trashy mulberry tree. Over the years, we've "landscaped" if quite a bit: turned most of it into a "butterfly garden", built a stone wall along the alley, installed stone steps leading from alley up to the sidewalk next to the house. We replaced the mulberry with a redbud that we liked a lot, but an ice storm killed it. We currently have a Juneberry in that spot, and that's a nice tree, too; just finished blossoming.

Today was the sowbellies turn.

IMHO, that's a sublime knife, FBC!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

I've always liked the looks of that model!:cool::thumbsup:
I finally bought one (Chinese model with a new shield design) a couple of months ago. I haven't used it very much so far (except for food prep), but I'm pleased with it. My only complaint is the sharp edges on the covers; I need to round those off.

That stag SBJr is super!:cool::cool: I like your photos on that "stump" whose colors match the color on the knife handles.

....another Robeson 😃 ...I just admire the craftsmanship.
I hope all have a good day.View attachment 2172329
Desirable duo, Bob; I've been enjoying your run of Robesons!:thumbsup::cool:
