What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Here’s an oldie still kickin.
I have a real soft spot for this brand, it was my late fathers go-to for 30 some years. They are really hard to date, but this one is from 40-60’s

Oh, man, so many good shows in the '50s: The Lone Ranger, The Cisco Kid, The Jack Benny Program, The Honeymooners (Jackie Gleason). Leave it to Beaver started in the late '50s. I saw the reruns, as I grew up watching tv in the '60s. I still remember when most shows went to color in 1966: "Now in living color!" There were only three networks then: ABC, NBC, and CBS.
My uncle, Herb Meadow, wrote some of those Lone Ranger episodes as well as Palladin. A decade earlier I had one of the Camco Lone Ranger knives.

the picture of your dog reminds me of the attitude of my dalmatian when I stopped to take a picture of a knife. He seemed to be saying "what are you doing hanging out on the road? Come on!"
I wonder what he was actually thinking... 😌

Good morning Jon,
On my two customs from Michael May, the fit and finish are fine, better than AWS. The action is ok on one and stiff( maybe lack of use) on the other.
It takes 2 months to ship out. Communication after the order is non existent. At seven weeks I checked in about shipping and got a response.View attachment 2181735View attachment 2181736View attachment 2181737
Hello. It's interesting to read this as I myself just ordered a Barlow with a stag handle about a week ago and haven't received any confirmation of the order. I think I'll check in with Michael in a month and see how it's going.

I don’t like horns and I don’t like de-horning, so we use polled bulls and I don’t have to worry about either. We have had some longhorns around in the past and I was always weary of using my dogs on them.
That's an option I didn't even know existed, Bart!:thumbsup: When I was a kid, our dairy herd had horns, and some aggressive cows would leave scars on others. My Dad eventually had a guy come who dehorned all of them; that was a bloody business! After that, I think we treated calves with some kind of caustic paste that prevented their horns from developing.
It looks like you did well at the most important job of all ~ you raised a child well. She honors her father, and has good taste in knives. 👌
Thanks for the kind words, Jeff. :) I don't agree with all of her choices in life, but at this point, those choices are hers and none of my business.

Thanks kindly Gary.

I guess congratulations are in order, concerning your career. I'm sure you touched the lives of many students, who will value their time in your class.
I won't ramble on, but know those feelings you are experiencing.🥂
Congrats!
Congratulations Gary! 👍👍
I think some anxiety is quite normal. Its a big change. Over the years I knew a substantial number of people who retired, and then went back to work somewhere else or came back part time. Some because they needed the money, some because they wanted the money, and some because they didn't know what to do with themselves. I occasionally miss the engineering and construction, but I was pretty burned out dealing with the bureaucracy. I was ready to go. I'm pretty good at keeping myself amused and I've loved being retired. Hope you do too 🤞
5K Qs 5K Qs : Congrats to you on your retirement again my friend . Always remember and never forget that you now get no Vacations , Hollidays , or Time Off from work any more . But you do get a continuous Long Week End which you very much deserve . Thank you for teaching our young folks for so long . Now you can carry even more knives every day .

Harry
Beautiful teardrop Gary. Congratulations on your retirement! 😄🎉
...
Did you say you’re retiring? But you already retired last year! Let’s hope it sticks this time. The same thing hapened to a guy I used to work with. He hadn’t been retired for long when they begged him to come back as a trainer, and vacation fill-in guy. Offered him more money than he’d been making, along with promises of “strictly part time”, “ make your own schedule”, etc. Within a year, he was working more hours than before he retired.

You do know that you’ll no longer be able to say Hump Day, and TGIF, right?
...
Thanks for all the well-wishes and advice! :) As Jeff mentioned, I officially retired 5 years ago. Since then, I've taught 1 class per semester at the school I retired from to make some extra cash to help me maximize my Social Security benefits. This spring finished off my 50th year of teaching, so I thought that was a good time to quit for good.

Thanks Gary, I had a similar thought when you posted it. They have pretty much the same specs. 👍
Both quite long, lean, and curvy, but I think your Camillus has nicer covers (and probably better steel).

Lol, Thank GT 😀

I noticed the little greedy rascals were really going for the peanuts in the bird seed mix so I recently upped the peanut/nut content to 100 % lol
Since then the number of of chickadee hits has increased exponentially 🤓.
I am still crunching the numbers but it is impressive 😁

Old seed mix meant more waiting 😜
...
That's pretty interesting, Dan! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
I'm surprised those little chickadees can handle peanuts; do they carry little nutcrackers, or use their bills to bust up the nuts? o_O

Thank you sir! Making myself stick to the plan can be a challenge at times. Agreed on the Pocket Pal/ Excelsior - nice little knife. :)
I forgot that the Pocket Pal has been discontinued and the Excelsior introduced. I should get an Excelsior to see if I like it as much as I like Pocket Pals. The Excelsior models are Alox, right?

I always throw them back as I catch them, but to answer your question, I throw them out of the opposite side of the boat than the side I fish out of.😜
😁😁 That's really smart!

My limited understanding is that it was a special edition that a German knife store had Victorinox make to sell, similar to how DLT has special editions made that they get to exclusively sell. This model is from 2019.

The model is known as the Pioneer "Prosit" model, and has alox scales that resemble the Bavarian flag. "Prosit" is German for "cheers," and the blade etch is of 2 beer mugs.
Thanks for the info about that German SFO; very cool knife!:cool::thumbsup:

Thank you kindly. Early is the most peaceful time of the day.
The teardrop is captivating Gary.
Thanks, Bob. :)
You're right about the peacefulness in the morning; I can often get a lot done between 4 and 6 in the morning because there are few distractions.:thumbsup::cool:

I'm a big fan of knife-on-post photos, and I've enjoyed yours recently.:cool::cool: But yours is kind of mysterious because I can't figure out what kind of post it is. Is that a "dock post" standing in water?

If I take more than one minute to take a picture he gives me the dry look. He was going like gangbusters to cross the stream when I stopped for a photo, to his dismay.

Another foggy 🌫️ start to the day in the City by the Bay! I actually turned on the furnace this morning to take the chill off the house. That’s summertime in the City! The Giants and the Dubs both won yesterday and now it comes down to game six. Will it be the end of a dynasty? Keeping me company today is the usual lamb and my new Boker.
