What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Soda scout today, vaccinating and ear tagging some calves.

I'd like to get some blackberries growing. An herb garden sounds nice, too. Most people around here grow tomatoes and peppers, but I don't seem to have luck with them. I went all-in on the eggplants because those and green beans seem to be the only thing I do manage to grow, and I got tired of green beans last year. 🤣

Thanks, Jack.

First harvest! I picked the little baby ones growing low to the ground, before 'possums and rats get to 'em. I'm hoping that makes the plants put out more blossoms. Plus a volunteer onion from the compost bin.🤠👍

I'm a lazy gardener Rachel! :D I get great results from the blackberries for very little effort, and also get all the apples I want from my neighbour, whose two abundant apple trees border my garden, (he's an eccentric old man who only eats tinned fruit and vegetables). I grow basil and chilli peppers on my window-sill, which also takes little effort, and is easy on my bad back :D It's great that you got a harvest already, we're only just getting started here! 🤣 I love your pic
I had googled that before asking, but it was late and I didn’t put in too much effort. After a little further digging, it looks like you’re right.

Excellent research Barrett  :)
A lot of very nice sharp edged cutting devices in your photos my friend . Sorry to hear about your knee but glad you had a staff with you . I have an unknown number of canes and or walking sticks placed throughout our house , garage , and cars just for those times . Don't need them as much anymore though . Take care my friend .

Harry
Thank you very much Harry, that's very kind of you :) It was a happy coincidence I had my staff with me, as I had been out walking, which is what I think set my knee off. I had been for a linear walk of 5 miles or so, and caught a bus back home afterwards, so perhaps that's when my knee locked-up. I was using a cane all the time some years back, but now the only time I use one is when I go out hiking, or when my sciatica is bad. I'm glad to hear you're not needing to use one as much yourself at the moment my friend :)
I hope everyone is having a great Memorial day weekend. Usual routine with work today. Tomorrow will be a day of relaxation and reflection. Have these two wonderful knives today. The barlow was a wonderful gift from @BrotherJim.

Nice! Congratulations Paul :)
Thanks, Jack. :) Sometimes my trip to Spain seems only yesterday, and other times (or aspects of the trip) seem long ago and very much like only a dream!o_O Glad I have some souvenir knives to remind me it really happened!:cool:🤓
I know the feeling Gary :) I used to travel around Europe a great deal, some years I spent more time in Barcelona than in Leeds, but I have almost no photos, sadly, let along souvenirs :(
Two very practical knives you posted there!:thumbsup::cool:
Thank you buddy :)
Yeah, my memories of growing up are mostly fond ones. I wasn't cut out to be a farmer, but I liked growing up there.🤓
:D:thumbsup:
Thanks, Jack. :) Until I pulled out the Zorro Barlow this week, I'd forgotten that it had a "game of skill" on the handle!😁
🤣

Interesting blade on your Barkie David  Terrific trio
Have the Lambfoot with me today. These crappie cakes are the fruits of yesterday’s labor. 🙂

That's a photo full of goodness! :)
It sounds like you had a marvelous day!
Thank you very much, Jack!!! :)

You've certainly got yourself well covered with those three wonderful slicers, from delicate cuts to outright bushwacking!;):thumbsup:
Definitely JJ, I was glad I took advantage of the sunshine, as it was rather dull here yesterday. I try never to be knowingly under-knifed! :D;)
I had this stag beast with me today. :)
Plenty of cutting power there too my friend :) I always marvel at your 5-blade Bulldog

Just Big Rose for me today :)

These pictures are for Rachel and Jer, r8shell r8shell , and screened porch screened porch ~
Thawed a couple of ears out of the freezer from last year’s garden.

Mrs Fleschwund won’t eat it. She’s been spoiled by the fancy dancy new super sweet hybrids, and I just grew the old heirloom Golden Bantam. 😟
That's interesting, since I've noticed it's gotten harder to find corn that isn't overly sweet these days. I don't hate it, but sometimes I'm just not in the mood for candy corn, and find myself putting on too much salt just to counteract the sweetness. Anyway, I'll definitely try your de-kerneling method. :) I'm looking forward to corn-on-the-cob season now. 🌽

I'm a lazy gardener compared to some. (and nothing like farmer Jeff, Amir Fleschwund Amir Fleschwund ) A lot of gardeners put in raised beds and amended soil, etc. If I waited until I had that set up, I'd never get around to it. I just stick stuff in the ground and water it when I remember. Either something grows or it doesn't!

Happy Holiday Monday, my fellow Americans, and everyone else on the porch. I'm carrying my Stockyard Whittler today:

Thank you Jack. I find blade on the Barkie very useful. I think BRK only did one run of the Bush Seax as number of years ago. I've had this knife for some time. I almost always have a fixed blade or Buck 110 on my belt. But they seldom get in the pics.
Just Big Rose for me today :)

My Lionsteel Jack was with me on my drive in country. The destination was Golden Spike National Historic Park, which commemorates the joining of the Transcontinental Railroad which signaled the beginning of the end to the American Frontier.

There were reenactors commemorating the event:

The railroad also brought along city vices.

The goal was not really to see the trains, but to enjoy a drive in the country. Golden Spike is in the middle of nowhere.

Interesting facts: The original engines were scrapped around 1905. And the original track was scrapped in 1942 to reclaim the steel for the war effort.
The current engines are replicas made to old specs with minor enhancements (modern breaks, cylinder and steel boiler). That and they look shiny and new.

This would have made a great knife photo, but there were too many people around and if the knife fell into the cab, I would have felt really stupid.

Please remember those that lost their lives protecting their country today.

LOL! :D My next door neighbour only grows flowers, but she has put me to shame the past 2 or 3 years. Having said that, she's at least 20 years younger than me! :D Sweet #66 Rachel :)
