What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

“Never was so much owed by so many to so few.” —Winston Churchill

We Don't Know Them All, But We Owe Them All

Have a great holiday, but take a moment or two to remember

Found this watch face to use today. Didn't image well, but you get the idea.

Another cloudy start to the day in the City by the Bay! Looks like it will clear up by noon. Keeping me company today is the usual lamb and the always handy SAK Executive. Please take a moment to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on this day of remembrance.🙏

Yippee!!!! Unless the collection company has changed it schedule because of today's holiday, tomorrow is "Trash Day" at Dan's sf fanatic sf fanatic house. Always like to see how his various neighbors arrange their cans. Quite a colorful event. I stand in support pf all recycling trans cans - trash, bottles, cans, paper, whatever. Oh, dumpsters - gotta stand up for dumpsters too.

Ed, I promise not to disappoint you! Tomorrow morning’s pic will show the can’s all lined up. 😜

Bunny knife again today. Proud dad moment, my daughter brought home the belt buckle from the rabbit showmanship today.

She goes back tomorrow for master showmanship.
Last fair update, I promise. My daughter did great today. She worked hard and learned a lot. We’re very proud of what she accomplished. I’m sure the bunny knife helped.😁

Congrats to your daughter (and her rabbit, and you) for her 4-H success at the county fair, Bart!:thumbsup::cool:

Was messing with our Garden Tractor yesterday, in the tractor shed, tripped over a trailer dolly and fell out the tractor shed door. Landed flat on the small of my back and shoulders. Sore and stiff as all get out today. Dang lucky I didn't break my tail bone. ...
Must have been in the stars Ed. Glad you were not seriously hurt. I went backwards down the attic stairs yesterday.🤕
Thanks - first fall I've had that wasn't a younger days outdoors activity/ work/ stupid human trick, so a new experience for me. I'll be very happy to not have it happen again. Went down hard on gravel, was able to twist enough to do a sloppy PLF. Lower left leg took the brunt of the impact, some bruising on the left hip and back near the left shoulder. Have an appointment with my Doc Wednesday to check all the gravel rash and where the tendon bruised (I hope it's just bruising). Definitely could have been worse. Wee... That was fun... Have a nice trip, see ya next fall... yada yada yada. 🤪 Also need to look into insurance for camera gear.
I was glad I had my hiking staff with me yesterday, as 500 yards from home, my left knee buckled. Not sure what the issue is, but I'm not sure I could have got back home without the stick!
I'm glad everyone survived their mishaps without substantial damage! o_O:thumbsup:
Gravity must have been especially strong last Friday! I took our little dog for a walk in the afternoon and decided to check the schedule on the front door of the local library branch to see what their holiday hours were. Somehow I tripped going up the stairs and pitched forward. I managed to get my hands down in front of me, but one of them was holding the dog's leash and I twisted awkwardly on the way down to avoid landing on the dog, so most of my weight ended up on my right arm. Scuffed up the leash hand a little on the cement, and worried that I had jammed my right shoulder, but the shoulder was OK after a few blocks.

That morning, I tried to entertain the dog by stepping up about 30" onto the top of the front wall (made of treated 4x4s) of one of our raised garden beds in the back yard. I got up OK, but found out that a 4" space at the top isn't enough for me to balance on anymore and I tipped off backwards toward the ground. Turned myself in the air so I could land forward but then pitched forward over the front of the second raised bed about 5 feet away and crashed into the chain link fence on the other side of that second bed. Really nothing hurt except my pride, and the dog was not even entertained by all my unplanned activity!

You guys are on to something. I've noticed lately that I can hardly walk in our lower field because of the uneven ground and working on things such as the tractor and other things is more tiring etc.. I'll be eighty in August. Strength is another factor. Moved a grader blade and a three-point hitch the other day and it took the rest of the day to recover. It took me about an hour to do it when a couple years ago it would have been a fifteen minute affair.
Yeah, balance and strength are 2 things I'm working on. I try to do a variety of stretching and range-of-motion exercises when I get up each morning, but the older I get, the longer that morning routine takes me because I have to keep adding things to my routine as I discover new stiffness or aches or whatever. I also do a bunch of weight-lifting exercises at least 3 times a week; it's not to build muscle, I just want to slow down the rate of muscle atrophy. 🤓

Staying active is good, but knowing our limitations and dialing it back before we hurt ourselves is a good thing. (Not an easy thing for me to say or do.)
...
Not easy for me either. I still play basketball twice a week with guys who are all younger than me (some by at least 40 years). I can't jump much anymore, so I don't try that very often, but I can still pass and shoot and defend reasonably well (especially since I know almost everyone's moves). But last Tuesday I didn't react fast enough to a guy changing direction unexpectedly on offense and the top of his head smashed into my right eye socket. We both sat out of the game for a few minutes trying to decide if we were conscious, then got back to playing. He ended up getting a couple of staples in his scalp afterwards where it had split open from the impact; I had a tiny cut on my eyelid, and the skin around my upper eyelid turned red and swelled slightly for a couple of days. All's well that ends well, but I don't think the collision would have even happened 20, or even 10, years ago.

Spent the day roaming around the Ft Peck area where Grandad used to liveView attachment 2200123View attachment 2200124View attachment 2200126View attachment 2200129

Then went up to visit his grave. The cemetery sits on a hill so everyone there gets a good view

I enjoyed reading about your trip to visit your grandfather. The photos, especially of the sunset, are outstanding!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

I had googled that before asking, but it was late and I didn’t put in too much effort. After a little further digging, it looks like you’re right.

Who would name their kid "Netherclift", even for a middle name?? I know nothing about Middle English, but might that name be a synonym for "butt crack"?? :rolleyes:o_O

Splendid Coast CC stockman, Steve!:cool::thumbsup:
And I was intrigued by that house, and happy to find your link with more details about it. Bricks, TWO covered porches (front and side), lots of appealing design features! I was wondering if you had a photo of the back of the house, and finally found it; I chuckled at the modern AC compressor at one back corner and the vintage reel push mower at the other back corner.

....
If a person knows how to make good buttermilk pancakes, or french toast, a fifty/fifty mix of butter and maple syrup heated in the microwave is a little bit of heaven, aint it?

Please, no margarine or artificial maple flavored corn syrup though!

Sheesh. If I ate like I used to, I’d be a balloon. 🥺
I used to eat whatever I wanted and as much as I wanted up without gaining weight until 9 years ago. Then I suddenly started putting on pounds at what I considered an alarming rate. I eventually found out I can still eat whatever I want, but I have to cut way back on "portion sizes". But I also realized, for me, the first 2 or 3 bites of almost any food are the best, so it wasn't a huge hardship to cut back on how much I ate.

So glad you also survived your battle with gravity Gary.
My motto..would rather burn out than rust. ...My wife says I'm her 8 year old.
