What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

nice cool morning … trying to play catch-up on the forums, which we all know is a futile effort … work has been keeping me away during the week due to some shifts in the organization, and I suspect that may not change any time soon … just know I’m on the Porch in spirit, and posting when I can … !

A bit of Brimstone today…

I agree, and it’s very satisfying when you put a little work into them, really makes them your own. 😉👍
Absolutely! The WB&P had a slight blade wobble, so I clamped and peened the pivot pin. I'm insufferably pleased with myself that it worked. 👍
I'd be afraid to try repairing a new knife, and certainly not a pristine example of an antique. Ones in usable shape with just enough damage to not hesitate to carry and use are my "Goldilocks's choice".
Look good though Rachel
Thanks, Jack!

I like the Staglon on that Uncle Henry version of the 5OT!:thumbsup::cool:

Two for fun, View attachment 2204321View attachment 2204322 Siberian Irises are blooming😃
One for workView attachment 2204323 Maybe I should get my initials engraved on this thing. There’s a jeweler who did a nice job engraving our son’s name on a locket I gave my wife. In case one ‘o youse guys tries ta swipe it.View attachment 2204324
Yellow Bearded Iris, Shasta Daisies, and Peonies starting to show off.View attachment 2204326
Our peonies aren't in full bloom yet, but they're swelled up and ready to go any day; as with many of our perennials, they seem early this year. Is that true for you, or are most of your plants pretty much on the normal schedule?

This one’s been a constant companion since I got it. Have a great day everyone. 😎👍View attachment 2204396
That old sawcut Case Barlow is a treasure, Todd!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Quite correct on the #38 GT.
Thanks for the confirmation, Bob. :)

Ours are for for compostables green, recycling blue and landfill brown.
Thanks for the info on SF trash bins. :)

Thanks. Gravel rash and general pain healing, the lump on the bone doesn't seem to be getting smaller. Doc wrote an XRay order and told me to get one if it didn't show signs of improvement by the end of the week, so I'll likely be going to get an XRay Friday.
Man, a bone lump sounds less than ideal! :( I hope the x-ray comes back negative for bone fractures.:thumbsup:

Me too Gary :) Thanks, I used her to hack down some hefty thistles the other day! :D

I think you do very well buddy :)

Thanks :)

Thanks again Gary, it's part of a vintage Cracked Ice HB trio that @JJ Cahill generously gifted me, along with a superb Case Barlow :)

Glad you could use Big Rose to cut down thistles, Jack!:cool::thumbsup: My knives rarely do anything except food prep and occasional package opening.
Kudos to JJ for his thoughtful kindness; that's an impressive quartet of knives he sent your way, and interesting postcards!:cool::thumbsup:
Your bone WCLF and the black French pattern make an impressive pair!:cool::cool:

You've stumped me, Mike! o_O I have no idea what pattern that knife is or what it's fascinating covers are called.

Albert Oates Lamb and a Sheffield Jack

Appealing pair of knives, Steve, especially that stag lambsfoot!:thumbsup::cool:
I wonder if the Albert Oates knife inspired the old song that begins something like:
Mares eat Oates and
Does eat Oates and
Little lambs eat ivy.

Cool trio of knives, David.:thumbsup::cool:
All of them are bareheads (bare butts?), but 3 different patterns, 3 different blade shapes, 3 different bolster styles, 3 different handle colors, 3 different handle shapes, and 3 different handle materials (if the bottom one is horn?).

These two for work today.

Combined blade length is pretty impressive for that pair of knives, Paul!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That's a really desirable old Imperial pattern!:cool::thumbsup:

Toting these two old thrifty slicers today. :)
Pristine pair of vintage Hammer Brand patterns, JJ!:cool::thumbsup:

Good point, Gary. Athough when I’m skating, it’s generally up to me if I fall and get hurt, not someone else slamming into me…generally.

Thanks, Gary.
So there aren't many demolition derby type situations at the skate park? 🤓:thumbsup:

I haven't carried a TC Barlow in a while, so today, I'm carrying one Duncan @Campbellclanman very kindly gifted me in Sheffield, some years back, along with my regular Hartshead Barlow :) Have a good Friday everyone

Well done with that combo Paul. 👍🏻We all seem to flit I n and out at times. Life happens.

I heard some rustling in the grass yesterday and looked over and found this guy cruising through the pasture.

I followed its trail to where it stopped about 100 yards away from the creek and found a hole where I assume she laid eggs. My Case eureka and Pedro were along for the ride.

There might be a little variance.. Now that I think of it, some do seem early. Probably due to the weird spring we’re having. Even though daytime highs have been hitting in the 80s and higher,, as recently as a week ago, nights were chilly.. And it’s quite dry.

Its a Canal Street Pinch lockback, Gary. IIRC the handles are called "Ribbon Candy Mica Pearl" It was an SFO for A.G. Russell.

Here's my CS Pinch for today. Found out all the CS Pinch knives were made by Eric Albers, which means they are special to me. He told me it was quite a discussion to get Wally to agree on these scales, but AGE jumped on them right off the bat.20230601_091144.jpg
