What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

A Madison Barlow in cocobolo today. The stone is a new Ark I recently picked up. The lid states SOFT Ark, the base states HARD Ark. Not sure which type of Ark this is.

Is there a nicer way to spend time than working over the oilstones? Maybe not!
Jon could be right in thinking it’s dual, but I’ve only had those in synthetic stones.

You’ll find out when you use it.

Coloration and apparent texture looks like a "soft" Ark, IMHO.
Nice stone. Should last a lifetime or three.👍

That looks like a soft stone to me.
Nevermind.
afishhunter afishhunter beat me to it as I was typing 🏎️
Interesting. I was leaning towards Hard. The wooden lid and base do not line up perfectly. The lid, labeled SOFT, is slightly bigger. The stone fits the smaller base, labeled HARD, much better with a little ample wiggle room. The lid fits the stone very sloppy.

I actually wanted a soft ark for field sharpening. Something to throw in my camping gear for touch ups, while killing time around the campfire..

Loose fitting lid sounds about "right". Don't want the lid to pull the stone out when you take it off. 🤔😇
May you have many enjoyable and relaxing hours at the camp fire over the decades touching up the edges of your cutlery. 👍😇

You got me looking at Ark stones now ... I REALLY dislike inflation (aside from in my bicycle and bike trailer tires, that is...).
Ark stones used to be "inexpensive" ... Though I suppose calculating by cost per year of use they still are ...

They don't seem too bad for the lower grits. I was eyeing a dual stone from Dan's. About $80 for a soft/Hard.

Well its hard to tell from a pic. In general the soft stones tend to have more mottling and the hard stones tend to be light grey/whiteish, but there is a lot of variation. I mostly use diamond/ceramic/strop these days. I dug this out of a box in the chicken coop at my parents place. All Dad ever used were stones. I'm guessing Dad either forgot he had this, or it was misplaced during their move from Michigan in 1985. Or maybe it was his Dad's.

Keeping the rubber side down so far. 🤠
Made it to the Buck factory this morning, and caught the factory sale. Uncommon self control on my part, made it out of there with just a new coffee cup. Would have been a different story if the 5160 110 in burlap micarta had a clip point instead of a drop. IMG_7867.jpeg

You did well, I dig the cup. Is the bottom unglazed so you can sharpen on it in a pinch or idle moment? Could you pretty please tell me more about that lovely tiny fixed blade?

Three blade Thursday, is that right? Is today Thursday? I don't know much, but I sure like huge knives 🤞Dunno why it's been so long since I carried the David Kelley, might be my smallest knife but still soo useful. I know why I haven't carried the Canoe in a minute, I over-pressed the joints trying to eliminate some side to side play 😔. If any generous souls know the trick for fixing that safely, I'd love an idea, PM, or link to relevant thread. Remonstrations uneccessary, I've already chewed myself out. 😁
