What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

When first stationed at Sam Huston, I visited the Alamo. Sad to see a department store right across the street.
I'm guessing you are talking about Joske's, which is gone. The building is still there, as it is kind of historic, and there is a Rivercenter Mall connected to it, built long after you were stationed there, I suppose. The Alamo is in the middle of downtown San Antonio, and there are many hotels and restaurants and other businesses around. Right across the street is the Menger Hotel, where Teddy Roosevelt recruited some of his Rough Riders. The original hotel is still there, but it has mid-twentieth century additions. Here's a pic of Babe Ruth there in 1930, from hotel lobby:

Wow!!
Thanks for the detail Vince. My stay began in '72. and my memory is fuzzy.
I enjoyed getting away from hospital, down by the riverwalk.

Harry

Good to hear all is good Mr.P. Two beauties as usual.View attachment 2250377

Thank you Mr. R.😊

You always post beautiful photos, thank you for sharing them. But, some of my favorite knife photos are taken during hard dirty work. Drop a knife down next to a driveway crack full of wet tar and you've got a masterpiece. I wish I had more time to comment on posts, all I can do sometimes is ""or "😍" them and get back to work. Glad you're doing ok.

I appreciate the ones that do the dirty work as well ........... but my only knives that are meeting up with tar and bags of asphalt are my utility knives. I have a 100 pack of disposable blades. 🤣

Love the SCC!
II don’t usually make it to the monthly flea market, but when I do, usually the only thing I buy are old files. They are very good carbon steel. New ones made overseas are junk.
A few years ago, I made this knife out of one of those files, and handled it with some kind of Hawthorn that I cut down for my brother in law. The file steel laughs at drill bits, so I annealed the handle section to be able to drill the holes. Home made sheath out of heavy leather.
I wanted to do something nice for a friend, so I gave the knife to him. A few weeks later, he gave it back. He said he’d never use it. He’s kind of strange. I don’t know if he didn’t like my weird design, or if it’s just his bi-polar personality acting up, but I’m happy to have it back. I made it to be used, so I’m using it.View attachment 2250400View attachment 2250402

Thank you Jeff and I agree with you about the old files vs. new. I really like your old custom file blade knife.😊

🤣😊

Are you telling me that during all those chores and maintenance tasks you haven’t kicked a single bucket?
Good to see you post, Mr. P!
👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you Ed.😊

Didn’t think you had kicked the bucket, Mr. P — but, I certainly hadn’t ruled out a lengthy stay at the sanitarium for Critter De-Programming…🤣

Good to see you back. 😉

That was a legitimate guess I reckon and thank you.🤣😊

Mr P I'm sure glad the rumors of your demise were greatly exaggerated. Couple ruggedly handsome knives.🤠

Thank you my friend.😊

Camoflage handle. (Does it work?)

I have one of those with black handles ....... it works for me.😍

Off to the market in the morning, with cake-cutting on my mind ;)
That sounds pretty deranged Jack, I picture you just wandering the streets of Leeds, fingering the knives in your pockets and possibly salivating whilst searching for cake to cut 🤣 Hope you found some?
A Garcia Conolon was my first good fishing rod. Grandpa took me into Jack’s Sporting Goods in Camdenton, Mo. and treated me. 👌
That's amazing, I grew up in Camdenton (debatable, the first part). Don't think I remember a Jack's but I'll ask my Mom. All my fishing rods came from somewhere in Camdenton though not sure where Grandpa picked them up for me. About to get them out for the first time in a decade or more as the kid is asking to go fishing. Hope I remember how to not catch anything...
That’s a useful looking fixed blade. Did you make it? What kind of sheath do you carry it in?
Oh no thank you Jeff, but it would look poorly if I made it, not at all like your Canadian style that boomeranged home. Mine's a custom request from Paul Lackey, he later made a few changes and offers it as his "SOB" model. It's a fantastic whittler and garden knife, also the smallest handle I can get four fingers in the hammer grip on comfortably at 3.25" I did sawyer the Osage for the handles fwtw, and have more if you'd ever like some in your mailbox? It's as stable as Ironwood, as far I can tell, never seen it move.

Here's my ridiculously over-prepared Ti Thursday carry.

Awesome knife, and sounds like a good coffee. How are you doing the roasting?

I see where a few of you was wondering if I'd kicked the bucket or gone on to greener pastures 😊 ....... I have been going from one maintenance project to another around the house and have made a lot of progress catching up on things that I should have taken care of a while back. Right now I am currently filling cracks and larger problems with my driveway. The forecast is rain so I can't work on it today. I don't like to post if I don't have time to look at your knives and respond ...... so that's my excuse for being MIA. Today I'm totin' my Schrade Cut. Co. Jack and my old KA-BAR-LO. 😊
