What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I haven't posted in a while as I had a radical prostatectomy last Tuesday. Feeling better but will be so glad to get this darn catheter removed.
Evening skies prevented this Canal Street bone from popping like it does in the sunlight.
Pulling the catheter is best done quickly, like pulling off a bandaid. Tell your nurse.
Hoping for a healthy result of your surgery, and glad youโ€™re back!

A few years back, a family friend went through all my parents family photos and scanned them all so we had digital copies. Although itโ€™s something I could have done, Iโ€™m grateful I didnโ€™t have to. (The friend who did is actually older than my mom by about 10 years, in her late 70s now, but has always been very tech savvy. She worked in technology for a local school district most of her career.)

Taking a look at the sheer number of photos I have on my phone, I can tell you that I donโ€™t envy kids today eventually having to go through their parents photos. ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿคฃ

But did it comb any beards? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Is that a beer barrel pocket slip?! Ausgezeichnet!

Prost! ๐Ÿป

Hey, nothing wrong with that. Iโ€™m certain your old Chicago cutlery knives are much higher quality than my freebie knife Iโ€™ve been using for so long. (After Iโ€™d been using it for a while, I found the same knife for sale in one of those discount home goods type stores for like $5. So of course I bought a backup.) ๐Ÿ˜

Yeah, they do. We have some cast iron that we use, and also invested in a nice set of All-Clad stainless steel pots and pans a while back. We do still use nonstick, but we donโ€™t spend too much on them, use them gently and for the appropriate applications, and replace them as soon as the coating starts to come off.

Great pics! I always enjoy it when you share that old Lambsfoot. Everything about it is fantastic (especially that bolster stamp).:thumbsup:

Albers Lamb and a #21 Bull Buster (not photographed) for me today.

Barrett, when Vik and I first met at UI, we both liked photography, and lugged our 35mm cameras everywhere. We now have a huge stash of photos stored in a closet. Scanning is a great idea, and may be the answer to what to do with them.๐Ÿค™
Regarding photos on the phone, those are not permanent. When Apple forced out a major security update a while ago, which was touted as being absolutely essential,

My Iphone told me it did not have enough memory. And the singlemost culprit was my photos. I had to delete hundreds of photos ~ mostly daily knife photos. I only saved pics of family and friends. I was surprised at how many pictures Iโ€™d taken of things I was taking apart to repair so I could remember how they went back together๐Ÿคช
Nice discovery! :D

That doesn't sound very nice :( Hope you're back to normal soon

Thank you very much JJ, hoping I get my energy back soon :) Yes, I had been looking forward to it all year, shame :(

Sorry you had to back out of the blade show, Jack. Were you going as an exhibitor, or just common rabble like meโ€ฆdrooling and coon fingering everything, hoping to find something you can afford?
Bob, a lot of us sort of go with a Halloween theme on the 31st. Iโ€™ll probably tote an orange and black pair that day.
But the Grim Reaper on a coffin jack takes Halloween knife to another level.

One was a kind gift from Chief Chief , the other was a $6.00 investment at the fleamarket. The ancient dried grease and grime made it look like a junk knife. And it hid the fact that it was a #68 made before 1950.

Have a fine day, friends.

You've already got patina going on double oh six! Cool. I was wondering if the first step for many of us when we get the forum knife will be to force patina, or otherwise develop it through use quickly? I'm not sure what I'll do!
Wife told me im getting too fat so sheโ€™s been getting me more fruits๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„, I do prefer a natural patina on my knives, apples do a quick job on them๐Ÿ˜Ž

I download all my knife photos to my laptop. Now that you mention it, I do have several disassembly photos. I could probably delete those of things that are back together :)

I've got a ton of slides that I haven't begun to look at ๐Ÿ˜ต
On the good side, I do now have two functioning slide projectors. One was my parents, and one was my uncle's. I also have a screen that appears to be in good shape. Maybe I'll get to them in another 6 years ๐Ÿซค

Noooooooo,
pleasure fishing only for coarse fish, on inland rivers grayling, trout, salmon and pike are considered game fish suitable for the table and most sea fish of course.
Over here fishing is fairly big business with pond owners spending thousands to stock their ponds with carp.
Carp, Gar (short nose; long nose; and/or Alligator Gar), Bullheads, Freshwater Eel, Catfish (some "think" catfish are a rough or trash fish.๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ™„) (large) shad (and other 'bait fish"), crawdads, and most other "rough" or "trash" fish are all yummy. Several of the saltwater Eel is too.
I "grew up" (note quotes. "some" would make the accusation I didn't.๐Ÿ™„ Perhaps "reached adulthood" would be more accurate?๐Ÿค” ) along the Mississippi River on the Iowa side. (in Clinton, Iowa, about 50 miles north of the Quad Cities/Quint Cities: Bettendorf and Davenport on the Iowa side, with Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline on the Illinois side. "Quint Cities" never caught on with the residents.)
Although they were and are not introduced species (like the Asian Grass Carp), It was illegal (still is as far as I know) to return a living gar to the water if/when you caught one! You had/have to kill it. Most just tossed them up the bank far enough they could not flop back to the river.
I was one of the few who put them on a (steel) stringer, then took them home for supper ... and mebby breakfast the next day ...
Gar (we had all three types in our section of the river, tho we was close to as far north as the alligator gar ventured) is quite yummy; Taste is reminicent of Muskie and LMB/SMB/Waleye. Mild firm white meat, and contrary to popular belief, are not outfitted "with thousands of tiny bones". They got ribs and a spine of cartiledge. They got no bones innum. Bones had not been invented when they evolved. (if they "evolved" from somethiing else, that is.)
Like sharks and a few other fish, the Gar has never seen any reason to replace what they got and evolve/downgrade{?) to bones.

One thing to keep in mind with Gar:
Any fried gar left-overs you put in the fridge WILL uncook overnight. Goes from cooked flakey white to raw translucent pikish white.
It recooks and tastes just fine; didn't spoil.
I've never tried putting gar in the smoker, so I don't know if smoked gar unkooks, too.

When the grocers have smoked Carp ... it would be less costly to buy a couple T Bone and/or Porterhouse steaks.
Last smoked carp I saw at the grocers ... the steaks were roughly half the price per pound.๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ฒโ˜น๏ธ๐Ÿฅบ.
